Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 14

The Three Angels

6 Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. 7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

8 A second angel followed and said, “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,’[a] which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”

9 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.” 12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.

13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”

“Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”

A week ago I adopted a Aussie Cattle Dog named "Tippy". She is two years old, allegedly housebroken, and was originally rescued in Houston, TX. She's a very sweet, loveable, curious, and active pup who is very smart, but I can't seem to get her to "do her business" outdoors. Every morning, it's walk walk walk, for what seems to be miles (4 laps around the park is one mile, and we do MUCH more than that), and she enjoys herself, chasing ducks and geese, squirrels and bunnies, and having a grand time. We even get a little training done, but no "business". I shared my frustration with a neighbor, and he suggested that maybe she knew her commands, but in Spanish, since she was from Texas. As her Foster Family had been Spanish-Speaking People, this was a possibility, so I tried "Siete" (Sit!) to see if that worked. Tippy sat. But she already knew how to sit on command, so that wasn't a good test. Even though I lived in Florida 16 years, I didn't know the commands for Tippy to perform her bodily functions, so I abandoned that idea. It will be just walk walk walk until she does something, and have a reward ready when she does.

An older lady who had a lovely soprano voice once sought me out for Vocal Coaching, as she was going to do a solo in her church choir. The song was in Latin, and was very traditional. She wistfully remarked that she wished the whole service was in Latin, as it was in her youth. I asked why she preferred a service that was in an ancient language that really isn't in use anymore. Her answer was not theological, political, or religious, but was actually quite practical:

"I want to be able to walk into a Catholic Church anywhere in the world and be able to understand what's going on. If all the churches use the same language, then it doesn't matter what country I'm in or what language they speak."

Well, that made more sense than some of the other arguments I have heard on that subject. It's probably more complicated than that (changes in the Liturgy and so forth) but her reasoning made sense.

The Three Angels of Revelation 14 bring their Message to the Entire Earth. This is in accordance with the Great Commission, to bring the Good News of Salvation to every People, Language, and Tongue. The Gift of Tongues bestowed on Pentecost was a Reversal of the Dispersion of Tongues at Babel. The Good News is MEANT to be understood by everybody!

St. Jerome translated the Bible into Latin,which was, at the time a living, working language of ordinary people. That's why Latin was called "The Vulgate", not because it was "vulgar" but because it was common.

By translating the Word of God into the Vulgate, St. Jerome was making it available to everybody.

Unlike arcane, secret, occult books open only to the initiated, the Bible is meant for every People, Tribe, and Language. Unlike other religious books that suposedly only make sense in their original language, the Bible works great in any language as long as it is translated correctly from the original Hebrew and Greek. Now, with the internet and Communications Satellites circling the Earth, there are much fewer people who have not been reached.

What seemed to be a total impossibility in John's time is not so far-fetched anymore.

That’s an LOL for sure. But I do mix the pumpkin (not everyday) in both dog’s food along with other stuff. I think it has been a good additive for the dogs not just for their digestion. If the truth be known, they probably eat better than I do.

It is a verse that I have used often to comfort those who have lost a family pet, often because they had to put them to sleep. It is a great promise from Our Creator, Who cares for every one of His creatures.
