Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 8

The Trumpets

6 Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to sound them.

7 The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.

8 The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, 9 a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

10 The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water— 11 the name of the star is Wormwood.[a] A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.

12 The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.

13 As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: “Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Wonderful,

and the Beginning from The End!

And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space With Your Word
and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!

LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Although it is a Huge Temptation,
As Your Works are so Wonderful!
Let us always remember,
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Good morning! I hope you all had a Wonderful Easter, Passover, or Both (I like Both). Today's story just came to me this morning as I was preparing the thread, and it occurred nearly forty years ago, so please bear with me. You will see the connection to Today's Reading when we get to the end.

Tom, our Drummer, was a Fourth Grade Math Teacher in a small town. He didn't make much money, and supplemented his income doing "General Business", which is the job of playing music for Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, and Parties. As a person who did "GB" for 35 years, I KNOW what hard work it is. Mistakes are not allowed, as you could ruin somebody's Wedding! And so, with two jobs, and playing with our Christian Rock band (which hardly ever got paid anything), he had a tough time making ends meet. Then he was offered a new job, which promised a huge increase in salary and manageable hours. He could quit the GB Gig and devote more time to playing the music he loved.

We were so happy for him! His new job was just a short hop down the highway where he was to become a supervisor in a NUCLEAR POWER PLANT! YIKES! I asked him what he knew about nuclear power.

Nothing," he replied. "They have nuclear scientists for that. My job is to find MISTAKES and correct them. I'm very GOOD at that!"

The Plant has since been decommissioned, but never had an accident like the ones at Three Mile Island or Chernobyl. And, statistically, most nuclear disasters were caused, not by the inherent properties of nuclear power, but by stupid mistakes that a Fourth Grade Math Teacher could have corrected.

Chernobyl has been in the NEWS again, as it was recently occupied by Russian Troops during their invasion of the Ukraine. While the plant itself is encased in two separate containment structures, and Wildlife is once again flourishing in the Exclusion Zone, a large number of Russian Troops were admitted to the Hospital with severe symptoms of Radiation Sickness. It appears that they were doing what soldiers do...Digging Trenches around the plant. While the surface radiation was at a manageable level, under the surface lurked the full might of the original disaster...just waiting to be stirred up. A Fourth Grade Math Teacher could have told them that it was a mistake to dig a trench around Chernobyl.

When the Translators of The New International Version of the Bible convened, they wanted a translation that was easily understood by a Fourth-Grader and readily translated into other languages. They were mostly successful, even though the NIV does not have the Majesty of Language of the King James Version or even the New American Standard (my favorite!). Some people don't like the NIV at all, but it is very helpful in getting the Gospel across without it being a paraphrase, and it is the one I use for this Thread. The number of languages that it has been rendered is staggering.

In the Ukrainian Version, translated way back in the late 70's, there is an interesting word that is used for Wormwood, the flaming star that poisons the fresh water and kills a third of the wildlife therein. Wormwood is a herb that is used to make Absinthe. It is very bitter, and too much of it can kill you. The Ukrainian name for this herb, and the word that was used in the NIV, is "Чорнобиль". (Chernobyl).

Lord, Protect Us From Our Own Stupid Mistakes!
