Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 8

The Seventh Seal and the Golden Censer

8 When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.

3 Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne. 4 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.

Oh LORD,
Our God!
Sanctified and Holy is Your Most hallowed Name.
How Excellent,
How Wonderful,
How Perfect You Are!
My heart is Overwhelmed With Your Glory,
Your Magnificence,
and Your Power!
When I think of how Awesome You Are,
Of How You Transcend Time and Space,
Of How You Created Everything That Is and Ever Was,
Of How You Tell History From the Beginning to The End
and the End to The Beginning,
Of How You Give us a Glimpse into Your Infinite Mind
through Your Holy and Unchanging Word,
How You Are Faithful To Your Promises Even When We Fall Away,
And How You Fulfill Every Jot and Tittle of Your Precepts,
When we ourselves fall so short of the target,
I just have to stop everything,
And say, "How Great and AWESOME YOU ARE!"

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Since I graduated High School in 1970, the weird, crazy 1960's hit me right in my teen years, and, being both an artist and musician, I lockstepped right into the hippie milieu. While some kids burned incense to cover up the smell of smoking pot, I just burned it because I liked the aroma. When Mom smelled the incense, she came flying up the stairs, burst through the door and yelled, "You're not supposed to burn that! That's for CHURCH!"

OK, so I stopped burning incense in my room, but I still liked the aroma. Perhaps that was one of the reasons I liked the services at the Ukrainian Church so much. They used LOTS and LOTS of incense!

Years later, I read in the Torah that the special recipe for the incense in the Tabernacle was not to be used for anything else, not as a perfume or air-freshener, or any personal use. THAT recipe was for the Tabernacle only. Other recipes do not seem to be forbidden, and it is very useful when House-Breaking a Puppy! I really, really like the smell of incense!

Today we read a short Passage about incense, and find out that the aroma is the Prayers of the Faithful ascending to heaven. No Wonder Mom was upset!

Because of the program that I've devised to read the whole Bible through in a year, I read through the Book of Revelation at least once a month. (The Torah the Gospels, and the Letters are completed twice a year, while History, Poetry and Prophets are so long that they only get one run-through a year, but the Book of Acts, like Revelation, gets 12.) Since I have been doing this particular program for ten years, and have been reading the Bible for 40 years, I think it is safe to say that I have read through Revelation over 500 times. Funny thing is, I am still finding new things in my reading. Looking at the Book as a launching pad for Prayer is a brand new experience for me, and I hope that it is touching you in the same way.
