Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 5
The Scroll and the Lamb
5 Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits[a] of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign[b] on the earth.”
11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”
13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”
14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent,
How Mighty,
and How Wonderful is Your Holy Name!
And How True and Marvelous is Your Word!
Your Promises and Your Covenants are Forever,
For You Are Righteous and Holy,
And there is No Shadow Of Turning With You.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Over fifty years ago, the man who would become my husband asked me out on a "cheap date". It was a free movie at Boston College, and maybe a pizza afterward. The movie was one I had never heard of before, in Swedish, (hopefully with subtitles) and was about the Plague. But heck...it was FREE, so we went.
So we sat and watched this movie about a Knight coming home from the Crusades, playing Chess with the the Grim Reaper to stave off the Plague until he could get home to his castle in Sweden. He managed to fend off Mr. Death until the very end, when he walked through the door of his castle exposing his whole family to the Plague. It ended with Mr. Death leading them all in a dance across the meadows, with the words of Revelation 5 & 6 intoned in Swedish while the text appeared in subtitles.
It was, of course, The Seventh Seal, directed by Ingmar Bergman, starring Max Von Sydow as the Knight.
Since neither of us had ever read The Book of Revelation, we thought that Bergman had made the whole thing up, and it was just wierd. But a decade later, upon reading Revelation for the first time, I instantly recalled Mr. Death, Max, and his family dancing over the hills.
The scene has been parodied many times, mostly by Woody Allen in Love and Death and in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. Bergman's film is considered iconic filmmaking, and I have to admit, I have never forgotten it.
The film was just one attempt to recreate this scene in Revelation.The Ghent Altarpiece was a 15th century attempt to illustrate this scene, and, of course, we have today's computer graphics to look at as well. There is a lot of Art based on these two Chapters, but, as I said before, it all falls short. I can't even imagine what it will be like, but from the looks of things in the world today, I may not have to wait very long.
This short Chapter has THREE Prayers, sung by the Angels, Elders, and Creatures in Heaven. They are all Songs of Praise. they just can't help themselves! God's Glory is so overwhelming that a Song of Praise is the natural reaction.
Not everyone can make great art, but we can all lift our voices in Praise!
Come and Pray For Your Prayers For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 28
Of David.
1 To you, O Lord, I call;
my rock, do not refuse to hear me,
for if you are silent to me,
I shall be like those who go down to the Pit.
2 Hear the voice of my supplication,
as I cry to you for help,
as I lift up my hands
towards your most holy sanctuary.*
3 Do not drag me away with the wicked,
with those who are workers of evil,
who speak peace with their neighbors,
while mischief is in their hearts.
4 Repay them according to their work,
and according to the evil of their deeds;
repay them according to the work of their hands;
render them their due reward.
5 Because they do not regard the works of the Lord,
or the work of his hands,
he will break them down and build them up no more.
6 Blessed be the Lord,
for he has heard the sound of my pleadings.
7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts;
so I am helped, and my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.
8 The Lord is the strength of his people;
he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
9 O save your people, and bless your heritage;
be their shepherd, and carry them for ever.
