Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 3

To the Church in Sardis

3 “To the angel[a] of the church in Sardis write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits[b] of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. 3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. 5 The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels. 6 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our One and Only God!
How Excellent is Your Most Holy Name!
How Wonderful,
How Holy,
How Righteous and How Just and True You Are!
For You Alone Are Worthy Of Praise and Worship,
And You Alone Transcend Time and Space,
For You Alone Are The Creator of All That Is!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

When I was 11, Santa Claus (OK, I KNEW it was really Dad!) brought me my first guitar. It was a huge archtop Harmony with f-shaped soundholes and action that was too high for my little fingers, but I was determined to learn to play. My Dad had a huge collection of records, so I figured I could just match the chords in the Mel-Bay book to the sounds coming out of the Hi-Fi. Most of Dad's records were Classical, and it was a bit hard to play along with "The Ride of the Valkyries", so I gravitated to his Kingston Trio and Joan Baez records. And that's when I started to play Bob Dylan's songs: Three Chords, usually no Chorus or Bridge, and lots of words, which I was good at, since by this time I had memorized four of Gilbert & Sullivan's operas. And so, it was Dylan's songs over and over as I used them to learn guitar.

Through the years, my tastes changed, but I always loved Dylan. I had all his albums, and although I knew a lot more chords, I still played his songs for nostalgia's sake. Meanwhile, my lifestyle was getting increasingly wild and crazy. I was a sixties-style rebel, no doubt about it.

One day, a coworker asked me if I had heard the latest Dylan album. When I said that I hadn't, he remarked that it was "religious", but the songs were still good. Knowing how Dylan went through phases, I eagerly bought the record and cued up the first track. Dylan's familiar, gravelly voice asked me an eternal question:

"When are you going to wake up
And Strengthen the Things that Remain?

Suddenly, upon hearing these words, my whole world changed. Scales seemed to fall off my eyes, and I came to faith in Jesus for my salvation.

Later on, I found out that the lyrics on "Slow Train Coming" were nearly all lifted from the Bible. The song that had opened my eyes was taken from Today's Scripture, the Letter to the Church in Sardis (Revelation 3). The songs on Dylan's two Christian albums are not "worship songs" as we usually define them. In fact, critics have said that they are kind of "preachy". But then again, nearly ALL of Dylans songs are kind of "preachy". The style is not as important as the Message.

Wherever Dylan is spiritually at this stage of his life, I will always be grateful to him for that album. It awakened me.

PS: Being Awakened is NOT the same thinkg as being WOKE, God Forbid!

Astonishing the myriad of ways God tailors His approach to finally break through. As many different approaches as there are people.

AMEN!

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 74

A Maskil of Asaph.

1 O God, why do you cast us off for ever?
Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?
2 Remember your congregation, which you acquired long ago,
which you redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage.
Remember Mount Zion, where you came to dwell.
3 Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins;
the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary.

4 Your foes have roared within your holy place;
they set up their emblems there.
5 At the upper entrance they hacked
the wooden trellis with axes.*
6 And then, with hatchets and hammers,
they smashed all its carved work.
7 They set your sanctuary on fire;
they desecrated the dwelling-place of your name,
bringing it to the ground.
8 They said to themselves, ‘We will utterly subdue them’;
they burned all the meeting-places of God in the land.

9 We do not see our emblems;
there is no longer any prophet,
and there is no one among us who knows how long.
10 How long, O God, is the foe to scoff?
Is the enemy to revile your name for ever?
11 Why do you hold back your hand;
why do you keep your hand in* your bosom?

12 Yet God my King is from of old,
working salvation in the earth.
13 You divided the sea by your might;
you broke the heads of the dragons in the waters.
14 You crushed the heads of Leviathan;
you gave him as food* for the creatures of the wilderness.
15 You cut openings for springs and torrents;
you dried up ever-flowing streams.
16 Yours is the day, yours also the night;
you established the luminaries* and the sun.
17 You have fixed all the bounds of the earth;
you made summer and winter.

18 Remember this, O Lord, how the enemy scoffs,
and an impious people reviles your name.
19 Do not deliver the soul of your dove to the wild animals;
do not forget the life of your poor for ever.

20 Have regard for your* covenant,
for the dark places of the land are full of the haunts of violence.
21 Do not let the downtrodden be put to shame;
let the poor and needy praise your name.
22 Rise up, O God, plead your cause;
remember how the impious scoff at you all day long.
23 Do not forget the clamour of your foes,
the uproar of your adversaries that goes up continually.
