Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 2

To the Church in Smyrna

8 “To the angel of the church in Smyrna write:

These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again. 9 I know your afflictions and your poverty—yet you are rich! I know about the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. 10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.

11 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death.

My sister and I were discussing Current Events, and the subject came up of men saying they identify as women.

"Why would any man want to be a woman, with all we go through?" she exclaimed.

We had a laugh over that, because, in many cultures, women are given less status than a man, and sometimes treated brutally. Then there are the actual biological issues that we women have to deal with from puberty onward. I am not unhappy to be a woman, but I can't imagine a guy wanting to go through what I've gone through!

The conversation continued to the subject of Identity Theft.

"Whay would anyone want to be ME?" I chuckled. "I am a widowed senior citizen who lives in a trailer and has no money!"

And yet, my phone rings all day long with scammers trying to steal my identity.

Our society is rife with "transgenderism", Identity Theft, Scammers, and Spoofers, saying that they are something that they are not. There is even a radical black group claiming to be JEWS. (The Jewish People have arguably suffered more than any other group on the planet, so why would anyone want to claim they are Jews if they are not?) The only time this has actually made sense,would be the few heroic incidents in WW2 when a whole community put on the yellow star to save the Jews among them from the Nazis. These incidents are commemorated at Yad Vashem and are very few in number.

And so, the question remains. Why would anyone want to be something they are not? By The Grace of God, I am what I am.

In Today's Letter to the Church in Smyrna, there is a reference to some people who claimed to be Jews but were not. It is possible that this was an opposition group who were trying to infiltrate and destroy the struggling nascent church. The letter from Jesus assures the congregation that these interlopers are Scammers, Spoofers, and Identity Theives. The Church in Smyrna is right to oppose them.

The little church is faithful, but there are troubled waters ahead. Even when we do everything right, we can expect persecution. But, if we are faithful to the end, we will receive the Crown of Life.
