U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke about being a “devout” Catholic in an on-stage discussion on Tuesday, while defending her staunch support of legalized abortion and arguing that the Supreme Court should not overturn Roe v. Wade — positions that place her sharply at odds with Church teaching.
“This [topic] really gets me burned up in case you didn't notice, because again I'm very Catholic, devout, practicing, all of that. They would like to throw me out. But I'm not going because I don't want to make their day,” the California Democrat said.
Pelosi made her comments at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, Texas, while being interviewed by Mark Updegrove, CEO and president of the LBJ Foundation. The topic was “the state of democracy at home and abroad, as well as [the] House Democrats’ legislative agenda,” according to Pelosi’s YouTube channel.
The LBJ Presidential Library maintains records and archives of President Johnson’s political career, while promoting his legacy. The library is supported by the foundation.
When asked about the future of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion nationwide, Pelosi praised the House’s success in passing a bill for the codification of Roe. That “codification,” which ultimately failed in the Senate, came in the form of the Women’s Health Protection Act, which recognized a “statutory right” to abortion, blocking state abortion regulations and removing restrictions on pre-viability abortions.
“Of course, we haven't passed it in the Senate. But we never, as I say, we never give up in that regard because we do think that the codification of Roe v. Wade would be a really important protection against the court,” Pelosi said.

I describe myself as one very pissed off American. ESAD, Pelosi.
She would be a devout Catholic but for her corrupt, perverted and sociopathic greed and avarice. Other that, she is Catholic.
So Pelosi grew up in a pro-life family, yet she supports the murdering of the soon-to-be born for political reasons. How can we describe such people? Words like “vile” and “evil” are just not enough.
She grew up a liar in a family of liars too, apparently.
She certainly is evil and vile, but I agree with you. She is a lot worse than that. 🤮

Key word, "practicing." Like so many and even most Catholics in many places, this means engaging in rituals and perfunctory prescribed praises, prayers and performances, while her honest if response is that "they" - the minority of vocal conservative Catholics - want to expel her but she remains as a thorn in their side, with the implicit consent of leadership, which is the only class that could "kick her out." That as a class they refuse to do so is an insult to the conservative Catholics.
However, they themselves choose to be schismatic Catholics (at least those who reject Francis) rather then forsaking distinctive Catholic teachings are not manifest in the only wholly inspired substantive authoritative record of what the NT church believed (which is Scripture, in particular Acts through Revelation, which best shows how the NT church understood the gospels) and becoming born again thru true penitent evangelical faith.
She’s pulling a John Kerry (who served in Vietnam). She was for life before she was against it.
She just says she is Catholic because it serves a purpose somewhere in her attempt to remain in power.

This reminds me of a good joke I heard last year, I’ll try to make it short:
“A crook robs a store and gets shot and killed by the owner. The crook then goes to hell and he sees this huge auditorium with seats circling a stage in the middle and on stage Satan is giving a lecture.
A demon comes up to the crook and tells him his seat is way in the back. The crook asks why, and the demon tells him “We sit people on their level of evil. The most evil people sit in the front, less evil sit in the back”.
So the crook looks at the front rows which are on fire and he sees Hitler, Stalin and Mao sitting in the second row. So the crook asks the demon “How come Hitler, Stalin and Mao are sitting in he second row? Shouldn’t they be sitting in the first?” And the demon says “No the first is reserved for democrats”
