Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

1 Peter 2

9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name over all the earth!
How Wonderful, How Holy and How Perfect!
You Are So Magnificent in Your Glory,
And So Overwhelming in Your Righteousness and Justice!
And yet, Your mercies Are New Every Morning,
And As Each Day Dawns,
Your Love and Compassion is Just as Overwhelming to my soul.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

In Ancient religions, the office of priest was a very specialized and restricted. Only the priests had access to the gods on behalf of the people. In Ancient Egypt, for example, the "god" was kept in a dark back chamber of the huge temple complex, and only brought out for major festivals once or twice a year. Meanwhile, the ordinary people had to trust that the priests were doing their job, making intercession with ceremonies and sacrifices in that little back room, to make sure that the Nile rose and fell in season, assuring the country's prosperity.

The definition of "priest" is "Intermediary" or "Intercessor". In the Torah, the Priesthood was restricted to the Tribe of Levi, and the High Priest further restricted to the Family of Moses's older brother Aaron. But, even Aaron's own sons were struck dead when they offered "Strange Fire" to the One True God. The offense was so grievous that God told Aaron that he was not even allowed to mourn for his two sons, but to just "carry on". What was so bad about what Aaron's sons did that brought about such a harsh judgement?

Scholars have argued about this for millennia, so I doubt if I can add any new insight, except that the sons were usurping the role of High Priest and being blatantly disobedient to God. In any case, the punishment was as severe as it could be.

The Book of Hebrews goes into great detail about the duties of a priest. It also expounds upon how the Ancient Hebrew High Priest had to make atonement for his own sin before entering the Holy of Holies. The Inner Sanctum was a place where God made His Presence known, as a Pillar of Fire by Night and Cloud by Day. Unlike the Egyptian "gods" the Lord was not confined to a dark inner room, only to be brought out once a year. He CHOSE to place His Presence in the Holy of Holies, and His Presence there was so Holy and Sacred that He could not be approached by anyone other than the High Priest, only on a certain day, and only after the atoning sacrifice had been properly performed. There was a reason for the little bells on the hem of Aaron's robe. If the bells stopped jingling, everybody knew there was something wrong, and the High Priest had been struck dead on the spot.

The Author of Hebrews goes on to tell us that we have a "Great High Priest Who is Without Sin". The Atonement and Intercession from this Great High Priest is pure and holy because it is not tainted by the sin that besets us all. Because of Him, we can "boldly approach the Throne of Grace", because He paid it all.

We already looked at the Book of Hebrews with regards to prayer, and now we are in the Book of 1 Peter. Peter, you will recall, was the brash, impulsive fisherman who was considered a leader of the Apostles. Although he was part of the inner circle around Jesus, and a witness to The Transfiguration, he was also the one who denied Jesus three times, cut off a man's ear, and was known for having a big mouth.

And yet, here he is, calling you and me "A Royal Priesthood". That is saying that, because of the Perfect Atonement of Jesus on the Cross, we are a "Royal Priesthood", a "Holy Nation" and a "Special Possession" of God. The veil in the temple was torn from the Top down, and we now have access to the Holy of Holies by the Atoning Blood of Christ.

However, along with access, being a priest means being an intercessor. With Christ as our Great Intercessor, we are called to be intercessors for others. And that is one of the primary purposes of Prayer.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Apostle Saint Peter"
Marco Zoppo - c. 1488

_
UT ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 64

To the leader. A Psalm of David.

1 Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
preserve my life from the dread enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
from the scheming of evildoers,
3 who whet their tongues like swords,
who aim bitter words like arrows,
4 shooting from ambush at the blameless;
they shoot suddenly and without fear.
5 They hold fast to their evil purpose;
they talk of laying snares secretly,
thinking, ‘Who can see us?*
6 Who can search out our crimes?*
We have thought out a cunningly conceived plot.’
For the human heart and mind are deep.

7 But God will shoot his arrow at them;
they will be wounded suddenly.
8 Because of their tongue he will bring them to ruin;*
all who see them will shake with horror.
9 Then everyone will fear;
they will tell what God has brought about,
and ponder what he has done.

10 Let the righteous rejoice in the Lord
and take refuge in him.
Let all the upright in heart glory.
