UN Sets March 15 as International Day to Combat Islamophobia

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. General Assembly approved a resolution Tuesday setting March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

The resolution, adopted by consensus by the 193-member world body and cosponsored by 55 mainly Muslim countries, emphasizes the right to freedom of religion and belief and recalls a 1981 resolution calling for “the elimination of all forms of intolerance and of discrimination based on religion or belief.”

It expresses deep concern at “the overall rise in instances of discrimination, intolerance and violence, regardless of the actors, directed against members of many religions and other communities in various parts of the world, including cases motivated by Islamophobia, antisemitism, Christianophobia and prejudices against persons of other religions or beliefs.”

Well, that’s nice. But I guess that resolution doesn’t apply to the persecution of Christians by Muslims. And perhaps the UN should look into why churches are illegal in Saudi Arabia. That prohibition would seem to violate the 1981 resolution.

Is it “islamaphobia” to quote Muhammad’s many teachings to do violence to non-muslims, or to recite the numerous times his followers have followed those teachings the past few years?

International Day To Combat Islamophobia should always be the day before yesterday.

Maybe we should make March 15 the day to remember all those people who have suffered from Islamic violence and injustice. The victims executed for violating sham blasphemy laws, the victims of honor killings, the teenage non-muslim girls who have been kidnapped and forcefully married to old muslim perverts, the non-muslim women who have been forced into sexual slavery (remember the Yezidi women of Iraq), the non muslims who have been massacred, persecuted, discriminated in muslim countries.

Most of all we can remember that the governments of these muslim countries who have denied justice to these victims of islamic violence.
