Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

1 Thessalonians 4
12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil.
23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us. 26 Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss. 27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
Hallowed and Holy,
Righteous and Just,
Overflowing With Goodness and Perfection!
Is There Anything Too Difficult For You, Oh LORD?
You, Who Created The Galaxies,
The Great Star Clusters,
The Black Holes and Singularities?
You, Who Devised and Designed the Intricate DNA of every living thing,
Each One Unique, After its Kind?
If YOU say it is so,
It Is So.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
I may have shared this story before, but it is particularly relevant to Paul's Teaching on Prayer, so I'll share it again.
Nina was a few months shy of her 100th Birthday, and was confined to her bed in the Nursing Home where I worked as an Activities Director. All day long, she babbled incoherently, much to the annoyance of those at the Nursing Station, which was next to her room. Since "Perseveration" is a common symptom of Dementia, none of us thought it was anything unusual.
One day, as I was making my rounds, I saw a big old King James Bible on her bedside table. I asked Nina if she would like me to read to her.
"Yes," she said, as clear as day."From Psalms."
And so, I started reading, from Psalm 1 all the way to Psalm 23. She thanked me, and went back to perseverating.
A few days later, Nina passed away, and her obituary took up an entire page of the local newspaper. She had been a Pentecostal Missionary in Southeast Asia for many years. During WW2, she was interned in a Japanese Prison Camp. Upon her release, she came back to the United States and worked for many years in the slums of NYC. She served faithfully for years until she became too old and sick to work anymore. Then it dawned on me. She WAS still working, up until the day of her death. That "Perseveration" that annoyed us all so much was her PRAYING.
Whether your particular Faith Tradition believes in the Gift of Tongues in today's world, whether Nina was speaking in Maylasian or Vietnamese, or Japanese, or some other known language, or even if you believe she was just making it up as she went along, she was NOT "Perseverating" after all. I knew in my heart that she had been praying all along.
In today's Reading, Paul tells us not to despise Prophetic Utterances. We are, of course, told to "Test the Spirits", and reject false prophecy. The best way to do that is to examine whether a prophecy is in accordance with God's Word. If it disagrees with the Word, uses forbidden methods such as the occult, or if it doesn't happen as prophesied, it's false.
However, in "Testing the Spirits", we are not to despise another's method of Prayer. In at least two instances (1 Samuel 1 and Acts 2) both Hannah and the Apostles are accused of being drunk when their praying style was misunderstood by religious people. In 1 Corinthians 14, Paul teaches us to NOT forbid speaking in tongues, but gives important guidelines for the proper use of this Gift in Public Settings. When we see church behavior that is not "decent and orderly" then we are looking at practices that are in disobedience to God's Word. (There are some popular movements that are not "decent and orderly" at all. BEWARE!)
And so, praying can be done kneeling, sitting, standing, or flat on one's back. It can be in English, or Maylasian, or Vietnamese,, or Japanese, or some Language we know nothing about. It may look like drunkeness or perseveration to others. It can be Public or Private, Out Loud or Silent, Memorized or Brand New. The important thing is that it is between You and God.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.

Great story about a servant of God! And as for “talking in tongues” - some of the most faith-filled and compassionate Christians I have known are Pentecostals.

Amen !!! <><
Psalm 57
To the leader: Do Not Destroy. Of David. A Miktam, when he fled from Saul, in the cave.
1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge,
until the destroying storms pass by.
2 I cry to God Most High,
to God who fulfils his purpose for me.
3 He will send from heaven and save me,
he will put to shame those who trample on me.
Selah
God will send forth his steadfast love and his faithfulness.
4 I lie down among lions
that greedily devour* human prey;
their teeth are spears and arrows,
their tongues sharp swords.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens.
Let your glory be over all the earth.
6 They set a net for my steps;
my soul was bowed down.
They dug a pit in my path,
but they have fallen into it themselves.
Selah
7 My heart is steadfast, O God,
my heart is steadfast.
I will sing and make melody.
8 Awake, my soul!
Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn.
9 I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
10 For your steadfast love is as high as the heavens;
your faithfulness extends to the clouds.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens.
Let your glory be over all the earth.

26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers[l] in harmony with God’s own will.
Whatever would we do without tongues?
Praying in agreement with you for the peace of Israel and for the speedy integration of Jewish Ukranians in Israel.
