Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Ephesians 6

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.]

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

The South Shore has some amazingly Beautiful Beaches and Coastal Towns. Plymouth, Duxbury, Kingston, Marian, Mattapoiset, and all of Cape Cod provide me with gorgeous scenic views as I ride my motorcycle around looking for Yard Sales and other fun stuff. Nearly every house in these lovely communities has a boat in the yard. Some of these boats never see the ocean. They are raised up on pylons, their deep keels getting a fresh coat of paint every summer, or buried halfway into the earth as a landscaping feature, full of flowers. Some are on trailers that are rusting away beneath them, and others are plunked directly on the ground, tilting and rotting away. There is a house in Hanson that has five like that in the yard. Then there are those that are on a nice trailer, well-maintained, but sit in the driveway all summer. The owners of these boats have all the equipment, but none of the desire.

Then there's Judy. Judy lives in a mobile home in my park, and she has a little kayak. In nearly every season, you can see Judy strapping the kayak onto her compact car and heading out. When asked where she will be going, she replies,"Oh, I don't know. Maybe Cohasset, maybe Hingham Landing, or maybe Hull." These are all close by, because Judy wants to spend as much time on the ocean as possible. I understand, because I have the same enjoyment riding solo on the Bike.

Paul concludes his remarkable description of our Armor with this:

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

All the equipment in the world isn't going to be worth anything unless you USE it. The best-eqipped yacht that sits in a yard does nothing for anybody. A gleaming motorcycle that sits on a pedastal in a showroom may be a work of industrial art, but it's not a REAL bike until the tires touch the road.

Don't let your armor rust away. Paul has given us this analogy as a way of teaching us how to pray. Pray all the time for all circumstances. There is never an occasion when prayer is not appropriate. You have the equipment. USE IT.
