Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Ephesians 6

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.]

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Wonderful Name!
You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The Most High! You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham,
You Are The Ancient Of Days,
LORD of Hosts,
and Rock of All Ages,
Our Creator,
You Have Made Us,
and All That Is.
You Are The Same Yesterday,
Today, and Forever.
Your Loving Kindness Is from Everlasting To Everlasting.
Even When We Are Unfaithful,
You Are Always Faithful.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Psalm 26

Of David.

1 Vindicate me, O Lord,
for I have walked in my integrity,
and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.
2 Prove me, O Lord, and try me;
test my heart and mind.
3 For your steadfast love is before my eyes,
and I walk in faithfulness to you.*

4 I do not sit with the worthless,
nor do I consort with hypocrites;
5 I hate the company of evildoers,
and will not sit with the wicked.

6 I wash my hands in innocence,
and go around your altar, O Lord,
7 singing aloud a song of thanksgiving,
and telling all your wondrous deeds.

8 O Lord, I love the house in which you dwell,
and the place where your glory abides.
9 Do not sweep me away with sinners,
nor my life with the bloodthirsty,
10 those in whose hands are evil devices,
and whose right hands are full of bribes.

11 But as for me, I walk in my integrity;
redeem me, and be gracious to me.
12 My foot stands on level ground;
in the great congregation I will bless the Lord.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Jimmy (not his real name), a Marine, and FBI Agent in New York City, adored Jazz. Even though his job was very demanding, as the NYC Bureau was right in the middle of investigating the New York Crime Families, Jimmy managed at least once a week to take his beautiful wife Agnes to Harlem, dressed to the nines, to hear authentic Jazz. They went to all the legendary night clubs and heard musicians who are now considered "Giants" in the History of American Music. Sometimes he and his wife were the only Caucasian People in the club, but the musicians and staff knew who he was, that he was FBI, and that he LOVED and respected their music. Jimmy and Agnes were "regulars", always respendant, he in his tux and she in her elegant glittery gown with a long train trailing behind her.

One night, Jimmy and Agnes made their usual grand entrance at The Cotton Club. As they paused briefly on the stairway, a musician who was a bit late for the gig came running down the stairs with his trumpet. Both feet got tangled in Agnes's gown and he went flying, tumbling down the stairs, his trumpet leaving his grasp and skidding across the floor. The musician rose to his feet, dusted himself off, and went to confront the people who tripped him, spoiling for a fight. Then the two men recognized each other, and both groveled in abject apologies, each trying to outdo the other in sincerity. One man was the well-known FBI Agent that had risen through the ranks and had become the head of the Mob Investigation, and the other man was Dizzy Gillespe.

Many years later, Jimmy had suffered an injury on the job and also was nearly blind from macular degeneration. However, he still loved Jazz and desired to take piano lessons. Since he could not even attempt reading sheet music, I used other methods to teach him to play by feel and ear. He said that the Jazz Musicians of old didn't use sheet music, so why should he? And so, I taught him a different way, which I will share tomorrow. He is the one who shared with me this true story, and it goes perfectly with today's Scripture reading.

If we judge from ancient statues and wall paintings of the era, it is safe to assume that the people of the Roman Empire wore tunics, togas, and robes that reached the ground. Pants and trousers were not part of the fashion, although perhaps they were worn further to the East. Needless to say, these robes were as inconvenient as Agnes's Gown when there was any work to be done. And so, those folks who had to work for a living would cinch up the robe into a leather belt, tucking it around their loins, leaving the legs free. Then the ground could be plowed, the ship could be sailed, and other tasks could be done without the robes flapping around. To this day we have the expression "To Gird one's Loins", which means to prepare for a task or even a battle.

Since Paul was very good at using common objects and situations to explain the Spiritual, he calls that useful leather belt "The Belt of Truth." Life, and especially religious life, is full of excess fabric flapping around and distracting us. Legends, traditions, rituals, folk tales, anecdotes, current day prophetic utterances, and even "Fake News" are all there, ready to trip us up. Paul doesn't tell us to strip down to our bare essence in order to be believers. He doesn't tell us to destroy our traditions, remove all our holidays, or isolate ourselves from the world. He does, however, tell us to keep all that flapping material under control by keeping it cinched up by The Truth, so we can effectively battle the enemy of our souls. And since Jesus identified Himself as "The Truth", we KNOW that He is the One Who holds it all together.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
