Galatians 1

1 Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers and sisters[a] with me,

To the churches in Galatia:

3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

About fifteen years ago, I opened up my email account to see a notice from my bank that my account had been frozen due to unauthorized activity. The bank was demanding that I confirm my identity and password before they would unlock it, and provided a link for me to do so. Just before clicking on the link, I looked up at the return email address. It was NOT the name of the bank, but something weird, like "kqkcyen@joeshmo.com". That sure didn't look Kosher at all to me, so I CALLED the bank and asked for Customer Service. The lovely customer service representitive (they had humans answering the phone in those days!) explained to me that this was a new kind of illegal scam called "Spoofing". The perpetrator would design an email that looked exactly like a real bank or credit company that would get you to click on the link, provide your personal information, and reveal your password. Then they would use that information to wipe out your bank account or even steal your identity. The Customer Service Rep gave me this sage advice:

"NEVER click on a link in an email from a source you don't know!"

Good Advice! In the intervening years, I get at least one spoof email a day, and sometimes more. However, the joke is on these spammers, because, if they ever wiped out my bank account, it wouldn't even cover the cost of sending out the emails.

Paul, stuck in Jail, faced a similar problem even back in his day. In his letters, he carefully identifies himself, because it seems that false teachers were spoofing Paul's Letters! In one letter, Paul even calls attention to his large handwriting to identify the authenticity of the letter. (This is also one of the clues to Paul's "Thorn in the Flesh". Could it be that, because of failing eyesight, he wrote in large handwriting?) Paul also shows a particular pattern in his writing, adding prayers and personal touches all through the Letters. Today we look at the Letter to the Galatians, which, predictably, opens with a Prayer.
