Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 10

Peter’s Vision

9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. 13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”

14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

17 While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.

19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three[a] men are looking for you. 20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”

21 Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”

22 The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.” 23 Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.

and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

My sister shared a story about a woman we used to know from church many years ago. My sister was hurt because "Margaret" no longer communicated with her, and had "blocked" her on FB. Since I am not on FB, I asked Sis to reconstruct their last conversation as best she could remember, so we could see the source of this unforgiveness. Sis didn't need to think back. She knew EXACTLY what the issue was.

It seems that years ago, Margaret began going to a church that claimed to be "Authentic 1st Century Christianity" by embracing the dietary laws and standards of Pharisaic Judaism. They escewed pork and shellfish, worshipped on Saturday, and kept themselves separated from other Christians in order to stay "pure". Margaret posted these beliefs on Sis's FB page, and, naturally, my sister objected. Not only did my sister object, but she cited Chapter and Verse, and refuted every point with scholarly references. Of course, this Passage (Acts 10) came up, but also Passages from Galatians, Ephesians, and Colossians. Now, my sister is not a big scholar, so I am certain that The Holy Spirit was guiding her response. However, Margaret was not impressed, told Sis she was going to hell, and then blocked her. (This is why I am not on FB!) My take on this is that it is OK to keep these rules if you like, but you are NOT to enforce them upon others, and our Salvation DOES NOT depend on them. There is nothing we can add to the Finished Work of Jesus on The Cross. We are to be Lights in a Dark World, like a City on a Hill. Isolation, Legalism, and Self-Righteousness have no place in the Gospel. (Are you gonna eat that bacon? If not, I'll take it!)

Anyway, Peter still hadn't caught on to this Great Truth. He was still avoiding the Gentiles as if they were a pork-stuffed-lobster-with-cream-sauce. God sent him this vision to teach Peter that God is the Creator of All Things, and nothing He has created is to be called "unclean". That includes Gentiles. Even Roman Occupiers. It was God's way of preparing Peter for evangelizing the World. The Gospel is for everybody, not just the Jews. Note that Peter did not get this Revelation until after a lot of Prayer. It is then that God spoke to him with the Vision.

(And, for the record, Barbecued Alligator tastes like chicken!)

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 9

To the leader: according to Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.

1 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

3 When my enemies turned back,
they stumbled and perished before you.
4 For you have maintained my just cause;
you have sat on the throne giving righteous judgement.

5 You have rebuked the nations, you have destroyed the wicked;
you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.
6 The enemies have vanished in everlasting ruins;
their cities you have rooted out;
the very memory of them has perished.

7 But the Lord sits enthroned for ever,
he has established his throne for judgement.
8 He judges the world with righteousness;
he judges the peoples with equity.

9 The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion.
Declare his deeds among the peoples.
12 For he who avenges blood is mindful of them;
he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

13 Be gracious to me, O Lord.
See what I suffer from those who hate me;
you are the one who lifts me up from the gates of death,
14 so that I may recount all your praises,
and, in the gates of daughter Zion,
rejoice in your deliverance.

15 The nations have sunk in the pit that they made;
in the net that they hid has their own foot been caught.
16 The Lord has made himself known, he has executed judgement;
the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands.
Higgaion. Selah

17 The wicked shall depart to Sheol,
all the nations that forget God.

18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
nor the hope of the poor perish for ever.

19 Rise up, O Lord! Do not let mortals prevail;
let the nations be judged before you.
20 Put them in fear, O Lord;
let the nations know that they are only human.
Selah

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Peter’s Vision of Unclean Animals"
Domenico Fetti - c.1619

_N the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
