Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 4

The Believers Pray

23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25 You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David:

“‘Why do the nations rage
    and the peoples plot in vain?
26  The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
against the Lord
    and against his anointed one.[b]’[c]

27 Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. 28 They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. 29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Abba Father,
How Wonderful You Are!
You Alone Are Our Counselor,
You Alone Are The Almighty!
You Alone Are The Everlasting Father,
You Are The Are The Prince of Peace!

Oh Lord, How We Love Your Word!
You See The Beginning from The End,
And The End From The Beginning.
Teach us to Trust in You as We Pray for America.
We Pray For The American People,
May They NOT be Deceived by the Media.
May Their Eyes be Opened.

of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.

and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

There is a lot of praying in the Book of Acts. So why then is it not called "The Book of Praying" instead of "The Book of Acts"? The answer can be found in today's Passage. The Believers join together and Pray for Boldness so they may be empowered to ACT. This passage shows us that prayer itself is such a powerful action that it spurs us onward to Action that shakes the world.

However, there are those who want to ACT without the preparation of Prayer. I have seen churches fail for both reasons:

1. Prayer Without Action. Some very pious folks can shut themselves up into a cocoon of prayer and never reach out to others. While this might be a good thing for a temporary "retreat" to recharge, it is not fulfilling The Great Commission. There are sects that isolate themselves and never engage. While Jesus set the example of private prayer, He also followed it immidiately with Action.

2. Action Without Prayer: This is a problem when a church becomes so involved with social programs, fundraising, big music productions, media, and other "actions" that they forget to pray. Soon they are performing all these "deeds" on their own power, and become spiritually bankrupt.

The Early Church found themselves in a very hostile environment. Yet, they did not retreat into a little private club, but prayed for boldness in order to engage the Culture and bring others into The Fullness of Salvation. Our times aren't much different. We may be shadow-banned, ridiculed, de-platformed, demonetized, and even arrested, We need the infilling of the Holy Spirit to be bold. And that takes Prayer.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
