I am no fan of the current Pope but he said “The Lord wants to save everyone,” not “the Lord will save everyone.”

Big difference. Geez, that’s probably an intentional misleading headline.

Read the quote again. He said both; that the Lord WILL save everyone and WANTS to save everyone. They are not exclusive statements.

I wasn't there, but according to the post he said BOTH of those statements. One is true, the other most assuredly is NOT true.

If the Lord wanted to save everyone then everyone would be saved.

“the Lord is good and will save everyone.” — From the article. Do you have a different translation?

Good catch. Reminds of the huge difference in meaning in the two following sentences which are the same except for the last word:

John lives by the river.

John lives by the Bible.

“Respect everyone. The Lord is good and will save everyone — do not say this aloud [laughs] — but the Lord wants to save everyone. Please do not make the Church deny her truth. Many, many people of homosexual orientation approach the Sacrament of Penance, they approach to ask priests for advice, the Church helps them to move forward in their lives.”

"I am no fan of the current Pope but he said “The Lord wants to save everyone,” not “the Lord will save everyone.”"

Concur. I am not no fan of Catholicism, not just this pope, but asserting someone said or meant what they did not, in context, is a problem that is not simply seen in liberal sources, but too often is seen in conservative ones.
