Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Acts 2

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Abba Father!
You Are Clothed in Majesty! You Are The Creator of All That Is!
And You Tell Us in Your Word,
That You Are The All in All,
And That In You,
All Things Hold Together!
You Are The Answer To All Our Questions,
All Our Theories,
All Our Wonders!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

This morning, I opened up the thread to find a comment about a Spelling Bee that reminded me of a story from my own past. (Hat Tip to Louis Foxwell).

Here is what I posted, with a bit of editing:

I still remember the time I came in 2nd in a Spelling Bee to a girl named Beth D. That was in the 1st Grade. I was devastated, and never forgot my resentment of Beth beating me.

Years later, when I was an activities director in a Nursing Home and there was a pateint with the same last name. I asked her if she was related to Beth. Sure enough, she was Beth’s Grandmother. I related the story. (without the resentment part, of course!)

The Grandmother said, “So YOU’RE Mary-Lou??? Beth admired you so much! She always talked about you!”

I could have had a life long friend but allowed jealousy to prevent it from ever happening.

In today's excerpt from the Book of Acts, we see the Early Church was full of blessed, happy people. They ate together, prayed together, and rejoiced together. One might assume that they were living in abundant, tolerant times, but that was not the case. In fact, on the Day of Pentecost, from the moment Peter preached his Message, Believers were plunged into a world of persecution. Peter and the Apostles were even accused of being Drunk and Disorderly, and it didn't take long before they ended up in jail.

It didn't take long, though, for competition and resentment to sneak in. As we will see, there will be conflict between the Jewish and Hellenistic Widows over lunch(!), competition and virtue signalling (Ananais and Sapphira), on top of the persecution from the Powers-That-Be. How would the Church survive?

Many of us, being human, find our prayer life stifled by old junk that creeps into our minds when we are trying to pray. Jealousy, resentment, hurt, regret, and unforgiveness can hamper even the most sincere of prayers and keep us from full friendship with God.

Jesus calls The Holy Spirit "Comforter". The Greek word παράκλητος (paráklētos) means "somebody called alongside to help". This could mean an Advocate, a Friend, a Person who Comforts, and a Mentor. It is also an ancient legal term for a defense lawyer. Jesus did not leave us "orphans" when He ascended to Heaven. The Holy Spirit helps us to pray even when we don't have the words.

When we let go of the junk and let The Holy Spirit come alongside, we are freed to enter full friendship with The Almighty. The resentment, competition, self-righteousness, and virtue-signalling all melt away in the glow of Fellowship.

Thanks, Louis, for your help in writing today's Meditation, even though you probably didn't realize it at the time! :-)

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 16

A Miktam of David.

1 Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
2 I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you.’*

3 As for the holy ones in the land, they are the noble,
in whom is all my delight.

4 Those who choose another god multiply their sorrows;*
their drink-offerings of blood I will not pour out
or take their names upon my lips.

5 The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
you hold my lot.
6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
I have a goodly heritage.

7 I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
in the night also my heart instructs me.
8 I keep the Lord always before me;
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices;
my body also rests secure.
10 For you do not give me up to Sheol,
or let your faithful one see the Pit.

11 You show me the path of life.
In your presence there is fullness of joy;
in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.
