Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 22
24 A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. 25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. 28 You are those who have stood by me in my trials. 29 And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
33 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”
34 Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”
35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”
“Nothing,” they answered.
36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’[b]; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”
38 The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”
“That’s enough!” he replied.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Abba Father!
You Are Clothed in Majesty!
You Are The Creator of All That Is!
And You Tell Us in Your Word,
That You Are The All in All,
And That In You,
All Things Hold Together!
You Are The Answer To All Our Questions,
All Our Theories,
All Our Wonders!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.
God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday, I posted a link to the complete Handel's Messiah, as performed by a group called "The Bach Society". It was a lovely interpretation, but I thought that the the overture was a little slow. I was used to the Trevor Pinnock version, which I have on CD, and listen to so much that every note and tempo is firmly planted in my memory. Last week, I attended a local production, performed entirely by senior citizens, and the tempo was even slower. A lady sitting behind me mentioned that she had attended the Middleboro Singalong Messiah the night before (the one that was canceled two years ago), and that was different too.
Last Night, in the Free Republic Canteen Thread, FReeper Publius posted a link (with lovely commentary) to the Hogwood version in England, which is a favorite of many. The tempi were much peppier in that version, and the Sopranos in the choir were young boys instead of women. Both the Pinnock and Hogwood versions used period instruments, the Middleboro Messiah had an organist, and my local Messiah a small orchestra. In every one of them, the audience stood up for the Hallelujah Chorus.
There is a thread that ties these all together, which is the Lyrics, based entirely on passages from the Bible, arranged into an opera-like format by Handel's favorite Librettist, Charles Jennens. Although "The Messiah" was not written for church, but as an "entertainment", the words and the music have elevated it to the "sacred music" genre. It seems to resonate with all of us. Just go to your favorite video site and enter "Handel's Messiah", and you will find pages and pages of videos. Each one is a little different in interpretation, but the notes and the lyrics are all there. Everybody has their own favorite. Some have bigger choirs and some have bigger orchestras, but the Pinnock and Hogwood are vieing for my favorite. I have not been able to locate my ULTIMATE favorite, which was a youth orchestra from the Czech Republic, which I posted last year. It seems to be gone from the Internet. That one was not on period instruments, and was a little faster than all the others. Nevertheless, it was full of fire and emotion, which really appealed to me.
In Today's Reading, Jesus asks Peter,
"Who do you say that I am?"
Peter replies:
"You are the Messiah, the Son of God."
He may have said it in Hebrew or Aramaic, and it has been translated into Greek, Latin, English, and hundreds of other languages. Unlike certain religious texts that are incomprehensible when translated, the Word of God "works" in any translation. Just as there are many ways of performing "Handel's Messiah", there are many ways of worshipping God. There is not one particular musical style that is more "anointed" than others. One mode of Worship is not superior to others. The only thing that should not change is the Declaration and Faith in the Messiah as stated in the Word of God. That does not change.
Jesus knew that Peter was going to fail him at a crucial moment, but He still prayed for him. That is another form of Prayer called "Intercession". We are all called to Intercessory Prayer, even if we suspect that the subject of our prayers is going to fail at some point. Our prayers need to look beyond that failure and believe for a "turnaround" (Both the Hebrew and Greek words for Repentance are rooted in this concept) and eventual Glory for that person.
Never Give Up!
Here's a little Christmas Song I wrote in the Ninth Grade, when my friend's Baptist Youth Group went caroling at the most notorious mental hospital in the Boston area. The hospital is long gone, but she is still my dear friend and I still sing the song:
Bethlehem (written in 1966, recorded in 2001, c ML/LTOS)
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
Hallelujah and Amen

God's Plan of Salvation of the Worldlings: Psalm 122:6-9 (AV; King David's promise):
"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.
Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good."
Matthew 23:37 (AV; Jesus' declamation and grief):
"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!"
Jerusalem's peace will only come when the Prince of Peace, The Lord and Messiah of The Father, the Man Jesus, returns to subdue and judge the nations; and to set up His Earthly Kingdom of Righteousness and Peace, with regal ancestor David installed as His Viceroy, and the Hebrews faithful to Him as the rulers over His Global Hegemony.
Matthew 25:31 (AV; Jesus declares to /his disciple-servants):
"When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheepnations on his right hand, but the goatsnations on the left."
Pray above all for the Second Coming of Our Master to impose the peace of Jerusalem over all the world!
Jesus was born to die upon Calvary, and resurrected/ascended to come again in the clouds for His faithful servants of all time, and return with them to conquer the globe with His servants as adminisrators, physically and spiritually.

Of course we know that true peace will not come to Jerusalem until the LORD returns.
Nevertheless, Jesus prayed for Jerusalem and wept over it.
And the LORD commands us to pray for Jerusalem in Psalm 126.
So that’s why this thread has had that title for the last 11 years of its existance.
That’s right...every day for 11 years.
Just being obedient.
Even so, Come Quickly Lord Jesus! (Rev 22)
(see you in the clouds, Brother)
