Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 17
Jesus Heals Ten Men With Leprosy
11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy[b] met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Blessed and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
How Magnificent,
How Holy,
How Sanctified and Glorious!
When I Awake in the Morning,
You Are There.
All through the day,
You Are With me.
And When I go to Sleep at Night,
You Are Still Watching Over Us All.
For You Neither Slumber Nor Sleep.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.
God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday, my dear neighbor Marie, who is over 80 years old, was in a production of Handel's Messiah. Since it was in a School Auditorium, everyone, including the performers, was required to wear masks. As a Vocal Coach, I was appalled! "You can't sing in a mask!" I scolded. "Singing requires deep breathing and breath control, and you folks will be doing that with CO2 and other crud while you are singing about the Great Physician for heavens sake!"
Nevertheless, I love Marie, and we had gone to hear Messiah back in 2019, and it was cancelled right out from under us. I told the story in this thread.
The concert was held in a 200-year old auditrium and was very cold. The Orchestra was a decent sized pit orchestra and was made up of elderly musicians, all wearing masks (except for the horn players of course) and some of them were actually shivering!
Nevertheleass, they soldiered on, rubbing their hands and placing them in their armpits for warmth when they weren't playing. The Chorus was also mostly seniors, with a few younger people in the soprano section. The orchestra was struggling, but during the choruses, there were some sublime moments. And, the choir took off their masks to sing! I felt so vindicated. The soloists were quite good, and Paul, the director, passed out the solos among the choir so that there wasn't any one soloist for the whole Oratorio. One Alto, named Karen, moved me to tears with "He Shall Feed His Flock".
When the opening strains of "The Hallelujah Chorus" began, the entire audience stood up and sang along. Everybody knew what part they should sing, and so the audience sang in four part harmony along with the Choir. It was wonderful.
After the performance, I caught up with Marie and we went out to eat together. With no masks. In a nice WARM restaurant.
I may be wrong, but it seems to me that there are more Teachings and Parables about Prayer in the Gospel of Luke than in the other Gospels. I hadn't noticed that before doing this series, so I am learning too as we go along toether.
Today's story about the Ten Lepers is not a Parable, but a report of something that actually happened during the ministry of Jesus. To truly understand the impact of this story, one has to realize the loathing the people had for Leprosy (and other skin diseases) in that culture. Even without the knowledge of microbes and contagion, these people had the Law of Moses which contained extremely detailed protocols for dealing with two things: Contageous Disease and Fungus (mold, mildew, etc). These Protocols included Testing and Observation of Symptoms, Isolation of the infected (NOT the healthy!), and, finally, after confirmation of the healing, making a sacrifice of Thanksgiving to God. Since Luke was a Physician, he must have been aware of these Protocols, which gives this story even more impact. When Jesus healed the Ten Lepers, He instructed them to go and show themselves to the Priest. This was in accordance with the Law, to confirm the healing. Only one Leper returned for the final step in the protocol, which was offering a sacrifice of Thanksgiving to God. This sacrifice did not involve an animal at the Temple, but was just returning and saying "Thank You". The other nine just went on their way. It would have cost them nothing to come back, but they didn't do it.
This story made a huge impact on me when I first heard it as a child. Thanksgiving is one of the Primary forms of Prayer, along with Praise. Let us never neglect it.

Psalm 122
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
1 I was glad when they said to me,
‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’
2 Our feet are standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem—built as a city
that is bound firmly together.
4 To it the tribes go up,
the tribes of the Lord,
as was decreed for Israel,
to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
5 For there the thrones for judgement were set up,
the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
‘May they prosper who love you.
7 Peace be within your walls,
and security within your towers.’
8 For the sake of my relatives and friends
I will say, ‘Peace be within you.’
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek your good.
