Russia: Another Cathedral, Currently an Art Gallery, to be Returned to the Church

By the grace of God, services should resume in the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Perm by next spring.

The church, currently home to the Perm Art Gallery, will be returned to the Russian Orthodox Church once the artifacts are moved to another location, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced during a working visit yesterday.

Construction on the cathedral began in 1798. It was closed and converted into an art gallery in 1933.

Mishustin thanked all those involved in preserving the gallery’s 60,000 artifacts for so many years, and added: “What’s also very important is that you’re returning the Transfiguration Church to the Orthodox Church,” reports the Perm Region administration.

Would we ever hear about what happened to any person who attempted to torch a Russian church?

Don't be fooled by the current Russian regime's favoritism toward the Russian Orthodox Church and cultural conservatism. The Russians work closely with the Chinese and have engaged in joint military operations with the People's Liberation Army for several years. Russia has close relationships with Marxist regimes in our hemisphere such as Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, as well as with Iran, as does China.

The current Russian leadership started their careers in the last years of the Soviet Union. After 70 years of Communism, it was very evident that socialism had failed and that decades of atheist propaganda and varying degrees of persecution of religion lost their effect on the population. To remain in power, the Russian leadership changed course, ended a command economy and even embraced Orthodox Christianity.

Keep in mind that, after the promotion of license in the Lenin years, the Communists changed course and suppressed homosexuality and pornography under Stalin and his successors, noting that the sexual vices were "bourgeois". Other Communist regimes promoted an atheistic puritanism. The Red Chinese executed drug dealers and even drug addicts to suppress the opium trade. Castro suppressed the gambling and vice for which Havana was infamous. He also imprisoned homosexuals. The Russian regime's opposition to sexual perversion is not due to any Christian convictions but is a continuation of Soviet era policies.

Do not be deceived. Russia and China are the enemies of America, irrespective of how often Putin makes the sign of the cross.
