Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Mark 2
Jesus Questioned About Fasting
18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”
19 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. 20 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast.
21 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. 22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Our Father In Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised And Worshiped,
For Your Alone Are Holy,
Righteous,
and Infinitely Just!
You Are Eternally Faithful,
and there is no Shadow of Turning with You.
Light and Darkness Can Not Occupy The Same Space,
and There is No Darkness With You.
Good and Evil Can Not Dwell Together,
And There is No Evil With You.
Yet You Always Judge Rightly,
With Grace and Truth,
Justice and Mercy,
Wisdom and Kindness,
Firmness and Gentleness.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.
God Bless America.

Psalm 87
Of the Korahites. A Psalm. A Song.
1 On the holy mount stands the city he founded;
2 the Lord loves the gates of Zion
more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3 Glorious things are spoken of you,
O city of God.
Selah
4 Among those who know me I mention Rahab and Babylon;
Philistia too, and Tyre, with Ethiopia*—
‘This one was born there,’ they say.
5 And of Zion it shall be said,
‘This one and that one were born in it’;
for the Most High himself will establish it.
6 The Lord records, as he registers the peoples,
‘This one was born there.’
Selah
7 Singers and dancers alike say,
‘All my springs are in you.’

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
My Aunt Mary taught me how to Quilt. Originally, quilting was considered a necessity. In times of need, women would never throw away fabric. Old worn-out garments could be cut up, sewn together, and become something new. Because it is inate in humans to want to create (I believe that we are made in the Image of Our Creator...so that makes sense), these frugal housewives soon devised patterns for the patches, sharing them with other ladies at church and family gatherings, and soon quilting became an art form. Quilting Bees sprung up, Contests were held, Commemorative Quilts designed and raffled to raise money, and Community Quilts, in which there were portions donated by several quilters, became a tradition. Although people have been patching garments all over the world for millenia, the Quilt is considered a uniquly American Art Form. African-American Quilts, Centennial Quilts, and Amish Quilts became highly prized and there are some in the Smithsonian.
The popularity of quilting led to its commercialization. People no longer needed to save shreds of old clothing to make quilts. Fabric stores finally found a use for end-of-bolt remnants which used to be either discarded or given away as leftovers. Neatly cut into quarter-yards and packaged, these "Fat Quarters" were sold as quilting materials. With a fresh new array of colors and prints, "Fat Quarters" added a lot to the quilter's palette.
However, the Fat Quarters contained a hidden danger. Most of them were not 100% Cotton. They contained fibers of polyester, nylon, and chemical dyes. When mixed in with a quilt made from cotton scraps that had been laundered hundreds of times, the new patch shrunk at a different rate, pulled away from the carefully placed stitches, and leaving a hole in a quilt that had taken many hours to make. I made a Victorian Crazy Quilt entirely by hand, using old velvets and silks, and a few newer patches from a satin Fat Quarter. The newer pieces actually ROTTED away, leaving holes that I ended up re-patching from by trusty rag-bag. It's OK to use new cloth as long as you thouroughly launder it, shrink it, and re-align it on the bias before including it in the quilt. Otherwise you are courting disaster!
Why would Jesus tell a homespun tale aboput patching and quilting? The parable isn't really about wineskins or quilts, New Wine, or Fat Quarters. It is about FAITH.
When we read about Pharaoh honoring Joseph's God, or Nebuchadnezzar praising Daniel's God, we are not to assume that the old kings had had a total conversion experience. The were just adding the One True God to their already expanding pantheon. They believed that The God of Israel existed, but that He was the National God of the Hebrew People and a very Mighty God at that. None of these kings dumped Isis or Ba'al, or Amon Ra, or whoever they worshipped. They just added the God of Israel to the religion of their forefathers. This is called "syncretism", and it is unacceptable. The New Wine can't be poured into the old wineskins. The New Patch can not be sewn onto the old garment. In both cases the addition of the new to the old destroys both.
Oh...one more thing about quilting: the patches, are all different colors and shapes, but there is one thing that holds all the patches, batting, backing, and fabric together, making a beautiful design. That common thread is the quilting itself, a contuous line of stitching that connects everything. It holds everything together, and without it, the whole structure falls apart. I compare that thread with Jesus Christ, as sxplained by Paul in his Letter to the Colossians:
1:17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Your post gave me a tinge of regret for not pursuing the skill of quilting . . . but then I can’t even sew on a button!

As for your quilting story, this now makes sense
Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.
