Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 26

Gethsemane

36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Blessed and Glorious Is Your Most Holy and Wonderful Name!
We Come Into Your Presence With Singing
and Into Your Courts With Praise.
For Your Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are the True God of Abraham!
How We Want To Love You and Serve You with Our Whole Heart,
Our Whole Soul,
Our Whole Mind,
And Our Whole Strength!
Let Your Holy Word Be Written Deep Upon Our Hearts,
Bound upon Our Right Hands,
And as a Frontlet Between Our Eyes!
Let Your Promises in Your Word never Depart from Us,
Oh Father, for even when we murmur and are unfaithful,
YOU ARE FOREVER FAITHFUL.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

So much has been written about Gethsemane, that I can hardly shed new light on it. Most theologians agree that the Passion of Jesus started here, in the Garden. I will confine my own commentary to the types of Prayer that occurred that night.

1. Solitary Prayer: Jesus was about to face extraordinary suffering alone. This was a time when He had to be alone with His Heavenly Father to pray. One can not even imagine the Disciples standing around the table praying with Him or even for Him, as He went forth on His Mission. While that kind of prayer (Sending Forth) is also a legitimate kind of prayer, it was not the the right one here. Jesus asked His Disciples to "keep watch" as He went further into the Garden to pray.

2. Prayer Vigil: "Vigil" means "keeping watch", and it is the root of the word "vigilante" A Prayer Vigil can take all night, and can be done in relay, as long as somebody is "keeping watch". It means waiting on God for an answer, and not giving up until one is received. It also implies NOT falling asleep. However, as Jesus said, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

3. Persistant Prayer: We wonder sometimes why Jesus prayed the same thing three times in a row. He is Omniscient, after all. He knew what He would suffer, but He also knew that He would rise again, conquering the grave. However, being Omniscient, Jesus also knew He , Who was sinless, would be taking on ALL the sins of the World, past, present, and future. The sins of all the hitlers, hamans, stalins, maos, mengeles, and just plain ordinary sinners would be piled up on Him, and He would actually BECOME sin for us in order for Redemption to happen. The whole history of the earth was building up to this moment of agony.

4. Praying in God's Will: Most prayers of "Thy Will Be Done" are done with a sigh of resignation. It is as if, in The Lord's Prayer, an big exclamation point happens after the phrase "Thy Will Be Done!". But, there is no punctuation after those words. In fact, they are part of a longer sentence:

"Thy Will Be Done On Earth As It Is In Heaven."

Imagine Planet Earth living in God's Will, just like it is in Heaven! What a beautiful prayer that is. "Thy Will Be Done" is a positive prayer, not a negative one.

Next time, when you pray "Thy Will Be Done," be sure and finish the sentence.

Much more took place in the Garden that night, but there aren't enough books or computer memory to hold it all. Our study of Prayer would not be complete without it.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 101

Of David. A Psalm.

1 I will sing of loyalty and of justice;
to you, O Lord, I will sing.
2 I will study the way that is blameless.
When shall I attain it?

I will walk with integrity of heart
within my house;
3 I will not set before my eyes
anything that is base.

I hate the work of those who fall away;
it shall not cling to me.
4 Perverseness of heart shall be far from me;
I will know nothing of evil.

5 One who secretly slanders a neighbour
I will destroy.
A haughty look and an arrogant heart
I will not tolerate.

6 I will look with favour on the faithful in the land,
so that they may live with me;
whoever walks in the way that is blameless
shall minister to me.

7 No one who practises deceit
shall remain in my house;
no one who utters lies
shall continue in my presence.

8 Morning by morning I will destroy
all the wicked in the land,
cutting off all evildoers
from the city of the Lord.
