Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Job 38

The Lord Speaks

38 Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:

2  “Who is this that obscures my plans
    with words without knowledge?

3  Brace yourself like a man;
    I will question you,
    and you shall answer me.

4  “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
    Tell me, if you understand.

5  Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?

6  On what were its footings set,
    or who laid its cornerstone—

7  while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels[a] shouted for joy?

8  “Who shut up the sea behind doors
when it burst forth from the womb,

9  when I made the clouds its garment
and wrapped it in thick darkness,

10  when I fixed limits for it
and set its doors and bars in place,

11  when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther;
here is where your proud waves halt’?

12  “Have you ever given orders to the morning,
or shown the dawn its place,

13  that it might take the earth by the edges
and shake the wicked out of it?

14  The earth takes shape like clay under a seal;
its features stand out like those of a garment.

15  The wicked are denied their light,
and their upraised arm is broken.

16  “Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea
or walked in the recesses of the deep?

17  Have the gates of death been shown to you?
Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness?

18  Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth?
Tell me, if you know all this.

19  “What is the way to the abode of light?
    And where does darkness reside?

20  Can you take them to their places?
Do you know the paths to their dwellings?

21  Surely you know, for you were already born!
You have lived so many years!

22  “Have you entered the storehouses of the snow
or seen the storehouses of the hail,

23  which I reserve for times of trouble,
for days of war and battle?

24  What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed,
or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?

25  Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain,
and a path for the thunderstorm,

26  to water a land where no one lives,
    an uninhabited desert,

27  to satisfy a desolate wasteland
and make it sprout with grass?

28  Does the rain have a father?
Who fathers the drops of dew?

29  From whose womb comes the ice?
Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens

30  when the waters become hard as stone,
when the surface of the deep is frozen?

31  “Can you bind the chains[b] of the Pleiades?
    Can you loosen Orion’s belt?

32  Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons[c]
or lead out the Bear[d] with its cubs?

33  Do you know the laws of the heavens?
Can you set up God’s[e] dominion over the earth?

34  “Can you raise your voice to the clouds
and cover yourself with a flood of water?

35  Do you send the lightning bolts on their way?
Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?

36  Who gives the ibis wisdom[f]
    or gives the rooster understanding?[g]

37  Who has the wisdom to count the clouds?
Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens

38  when the dust becomes hard
and the clods of earth stick together?

39  “Do you hunt the prey for the lioness
and satisfy the hunger of the lions

40  when they crouch in their dens
or lie in wait in a thicket?

41  Who provides food for the raven
when its young cry out to God
and wander about for lack of food?

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
We Praise and Worship You,
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God!
Blessed Are You Oh LORD, Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
LORD of Hosts,
Rock of All Ages!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

The Book of Job has 42 Chapters. The first 37 of them are mostly Job defending himself from his alleged "friends", who preach at him and offer little comfort. While most of the things they said were true, they were not appropriate things to say to a suffering person. There "wisdom and advice" didn't do anything to alleviate Job's suffering, and only made things worse. The pontificating and accusations come to a head when a young man, Elihu, steps in and starts excoriating ALL of the people present, who are all older and more experienced in life than he is!

It is at this point that Almighty God steps in and calls a halt to the proceedings. God does it in a way that provides us with yet another model for our Prayer Life.

God answers Job and his alleged friends by showing His Glory. From the very first Chapter in the Bible to the last, the biggest sin of humankind is the tendency to worship Creation rather than The Creator.. All the false idols, fertility goddesses, Asherah Poles, sacred groves, graven images, sex cults, and human sacrifices were evils brought about by the worship of Nature, or even the Self (also a created being!). Paul speaks of this in the First Chapter of his Letter to the Romans, and it is echoed in our own Society even as we speak. If you doubt my assertion that this kind of worship exists in our culture, just study the language of the advocates of Critical Race Theory, Climate Theory, Gender Theory, and, of course, Abortion. Advocates of these positions approach it with a fervor that should be reserved for the Almighty, and woe unto those who disagree!

All of these "theories" start off with something that is not intrinsically evil, (A clean environment is nice to live in, All people are created equal, and it's not nice to be hateful to someone of a different race, Women should not be abused, etc), but then it gets twisted into something horrible. This was what was happening to Job. His "friends" were forcing their own agenda onto him.

And so, here we have 4 Chapters devoted to the Glory of God. God reveals his Glory by speaking of His Creation. He speaks of the stars, the earth, the animals, and humanity, Ice and Snow, Rain and Thunder, Behemoth (a hippo perhaps?) and Leviathan (a whale, maybe), and a horse who flaunts his strength by laughing at the wind. The poetry here is exquisite and goes on for four chapters., Far from being an obscure, depressing, book, the Book of Job gives us insight into the Mind of the Almighty Creator and fills us with awe.

Next time you see a fresh new coat of fallen snow, hear a bird sing, or look through a telescope at the stars, think of the One Who made it all, and be amazed. That is PRAYER.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

My vote is for hippos and crocs: their age-old trick is the hippo overturning the boat and the croc lunching on the dunkees.

AMEN!

Psalm 95

1 O come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
3 For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and the dry land, which his hands have formed.

6 O come, let us worship and bow down,
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
7 For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.

O that today you would listen to his voice!
8 Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 when your ancestors tested me,
and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
10 For forty years I loathed that generation
and said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,
and they do not regard my ways.’
11 Therefore in my anger I swore,
‘They shall not enter my rest.’

God shows amazingly human-like characteristics here, verbally spanking His children when they misbehave.
Almost like a referee in a ring or an umpire after a questionable play. "In His image..." indeed!!

I remember studying the Book of Job in high school senior English class as back in the 70s it still was considered a marvelous piece of literature.

Joining in prayer, left that other site, for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Crocs are definitely a good candidate for Leviathan.

Tradition (and Melville) point to the Whales, but crocs are actually much more ferocious.
