Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Jeremiah 7

False Religion Worthless

7 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Stand at the gate of the Lord’s house and there proclaim this message:

“‘Hear the word of the Lord, all you people of Judah who come through these gates to worship the Lord. 3 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Reform your ways and your actions, and I will let you live in this place. 4 Do not trust in deceptive words and say, “This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord!” 5 If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly, 6 if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm, 7 then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever. 8 But look, you are trusting in deceptive words that are worthless.

Whoever invokes a blessing in the land
will do so by the one true God;

Be Revealed.

According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

In 1971, in my first year of college, I was given an assignment to create some kind of "Performance Art". Since I was also an avid student of History and Culture, I decided to create a "Religion" out of whole cloth, complete with a "holy book", a ritual, a ceremony, special vestements, and a canon of music. I proceeded to cobble together a magnificent structure of utter nonsense, wrote and illustrated the book, hand-made the vestements, and performed the ceremony for the class. I received an "A+", and everyone was very impressed at my irreverance and creativity. It was still a very rebellious thing to do back in 1971, and I sincerely believe that the bulk of my high mark was due to my audacity.

Little did I realize, that right down the street, there were young people being ensnared by another fake, made-up religion. Lured off the sidewalk with promises of a "Free Personality Test", college students were willingly subjecting themselves to slavery. The movement, originally spawned by a Science-Fiction writer, had metasticized into a world-wide cult.

My phony religion (of which I remember NOTHING, Praise God), was never meant to hurt anybody. And yet, other "projects" similar to mine have destroyed the lives of millions of people. I thank God that when He forgave all my sins, this was one of them.

Jeremiah warns us that False Religion is an abomination to the Lord. Even if one goes to the right church (or, as in this case, the temple) the condition of the heart is more important than saying the right words or doing the correct ceremonies. It is as true today as it was in Ancient Times. Or even as in 1971.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
