Matthew 7

Ask, Seek, Knock

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Evidently, everybody had the same craving for Pizza as I had. There was at least a twenty minute wait to be seated, and the lobby was filled with people waiting for their take-out orders. I had just gotten off from work and was waiting in line all bundled up in my leathers, hungry as can be, and enveloped in the maddening aroma of freshly baked pizzas being carried out right beside me. Suddenly, I felt a little tug on my jeans. I was not in the best of moods, but I turned to see a little girl about five years old standing next to her mother.

The Mom looked embarrassed, but said, "My Daughter has something she wants to say to you."

I looked at the child and she said, "I LOVE your HAIR!"

Well, I was totally charmed. My hair was tied in what is called a "Biker Braid" as illustrated above. Since my hair is long past my waist, I HAVE to braid it or the wind will turn it into one huge snarl. Since I am a Girly-Girl, I use elastic bands of varied color and coordinate them with my outfit. I thanked the girl and said that she was a lovely little lady for being so nice to me!

As children, we were taught to never talk to strangers, especially ones that look "different". Certainly, in my Leathers and Biker-Braid, I don't look like a sweet old Christian Widow! And yet, here was this little child, tugging on my jeans to tell me something.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches us how to pray. He tells us to approach The Almighty as little children. He tells us that "we have not because we ask not." He also tells us to have faith. If we ask for bread, He will not give us a stone.

Who knew that waiting in line for a pizza could be a lesson in Prayer?
