Treasures in Heaven

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Wonderful,
How Excellent,
How Glorious is Your Most Holy Name!
How True is Your Word, and How Mighty!
How Glorious, to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from The End!
Because, Indeed, You ARE The Beginning and the End of All Things.
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space With Your Word
and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!
Fancy Ceremonies and Florid Speeches do not impress You,
For Your Have Told us You desire Obedience, not Sacrifice,
And without Faith, it is Impossible to please You.
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Although it is a Huge temptation,
As Your Works are so Wonderful!
Let us always remember,
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.

and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Just now, I was setting up the thread and wondering what little parable I could write to go with Today's Scripture Portion related to Prayer. Nothing was coming to my mind. Penny-The-Pitbull was being particularly needy, and she kept pawing at my leg as if she wanted something.

"What do you want, Penny? Can't you see I'm busy? You've already had your walk, your breakfast , and even your dental chew, so why are you bugging me?

She kept at it so I finally got up and walked to the front door to see if there was something going on. And indeed, there WAS.

No fewer than ten wild turkeys were in the road in front of my house. They were all big, plump males, and they were in full display, marching AROUND my Harley! They had their chests puffed out, their wings stretched and their tail feathers in a perfect arch , like cartoon turkeys from grade school, and they were preening at and challenging my Motorcycle, all the while gobbling and bellowing and making a racket. (I hadn't heard this in the back room, but evidently Penny had). When they saw Penny and me on the porch, they slinked away into the woods, but a few put on their display as a parting shot.

Of course, I do not have a smart phone so I was unable to capture this event, but you will just have to believe me. I don't know if they considered my Bike a pretty female (she IS!) or some kind of male threat. It was the weirdest bit of animal behavior I have ever witnessed.

So what does this have to do with Prayer? Our instinct is to respond to the Unknown by puffing ourselves up to look bigger and more impressive than we really are. The most exquisite art and architecture of the whole world is that which reaches to heaven. Rituals, Art, Music, Dance, Temple Complexes, Cathedrals, Ceremonies, and Immense Treasure in every Civilization throughout History have been dedicated to the "gods". It is only in the last 1000 years or so that Art has been for "Art's Sake" and not an attempt to touch the Infinite. Don't get me wrong...I am an Artist, and I am grateful that God has given us Millennia of Gorgeous Art to appreciate and enjoy. But as God states in His Word:

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. (Psalm 51)

And, as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:

"Love is not Puffed-Up."

I don't think I will ever be able to hear the words "puffed up" again without thinking of those silly Tom Turkeys in love with my Harley!
