The Supreme Court announced Monday that it will hear arguments in a critical abortion case on Dec. 1.
In the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a challenge to Mississippi’s law restricting most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, the court will decide the question of whether all state abortion bans pre-viability are unconstitutional. “Viability” is the court’s legal standard from 1973, regarded as the point at which an unborn child can survive outside the womb.
The court on Monday announced the date of oral arguments in the Dobbs case, scheduled for Dec. 1. Both the state of Mississippi and the abortion clinic challenging the law will have an opportunity to present arguments in-person to justices both for and against the law.
The Dobbs case is considered to be the latest and perhaps the best opportunity for pro-life advocates to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide. States, the court ruled in Roe, could not ban abortions pre-viability.
Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act, the law in question, was signed into law in 2018 but is not currently in effect. Although it restricted most abortions after 15 weeks, it included exceptions for when the mother’s life or major bodily function is in danger, or in cases where the unborn child has a severe abnormality and is not expected to survive outside the womb at full term.

Birth control is plentiful.

Birth control is a choice for men and women.
Abortion is not Birth control, it comes from not using Birth control.
That’s a very scary statement: “basic civil/human rights are in the eye of the beholder”.
We hold these rights to be self evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
In America these rights are self evident not in the eye of the beholder. A child before birth has a life and has the right for that life to be protected.
Sometimes a mother has health issues such as a need for chemotherapy, sometimes fetal development goes awry in a way incompatible with life. In such rare circumstance there may be a grey area. Inconvenience caused by another person is not an acceptable excuse for murder either another adult or a child in the womb. The situation in America, where children in the womb are a commodity bought & sold and vivisected while alive, able to feel pain, is an abomination and shows a callous disregard for those lives & souls darker then was slavery.
That the left glorifies murder following torture & suffering places them beyond the pale, anathema. My body my choice gives them lots of choices, abstinence, birth control, morning after pills, all things they can do to their body. The new life they carry is not theirs to dispose of how they will.
Reality is Scary, but true nonetheless
That is the “everything is relative position”.
I believe that is a dangerous place to stand. Bill Clinton stood there and by doing so unravelled the fabric of our public square.
Civilization is based on shared acceptance of certain things as right & others as wrong. Otherwise we regress to “might makes right”.
America is based on shared adherence to the Declaration of Independence & the Constitution which enumerates our basic God given rights that cannot be abridged by man.
If we travel to other Countries we cannot count on them to respect our rights, we can be murdered, enslaved etc without anyone lifting a finger and with no recourse. Although those things can also happen in the USA, acts by criminals who believe that rights & freedoms are in the eye of the beholder, those actions are wrong, that belief is wrong and being American means fighting to have those wrongs redressed & those rights applied to every American.

There have been many civilizations with many different definitions of right and wrong.

This one has been prevalent throughout history. I do not see this changing soon.

I should have realized you were only posturing to seem sophisticated and world weary rather than have an actual exchange of ideas.

I would believe China, the former Soviet Union, and modern day Russia have us beat. There may be other smaller population countries that have a higher rate than us also.
Doesn’t excuse us. But the forced abortions of China were worse for example.
I think basic human and civil rights are self evident and reflected in biblical
law. Not in the eyes of a given beholder.
As such I believe you cannot kill anyone except in self defense, the defense of others, or properly applied death penalty. A just war would be considered self defense or the defense of others.
Abortion under no circumstances qualifies.

Good, we can’t just have “settled law” when the left has won. And we need to turn up the heat on Democrats. They have made it so uncomfortable so quickly that one of their own just quit the party. I read an article about that, “It’s Official: Andrew Yang Leaves the Democrats, Calls It ‘The Right Thing to Do’”, and you can give that a look at PJmedia. Consider that Yang was the guy wanting to give everyone in America government money that we don’t have every month, but the rest were too leftwing for him now. Killing babies was always wrong and if they could hold guns it never would have been a thing (no different than leftists argument about deer).

You are confused about who I am and about my point. I am sorry I have not been more clear.
It is the difference between the concept that as Americans we have a shared commitment to liberty and justice for all and the knowledge that individuals fall short or choose a different path.
Of course there are flawed individuals and groups in America. That is very different than saying that freedoms & rights are according to each person to determine.
That would be like throwing in the sponge.
I believe in right and wrong at a basic level. Each person is answerable for their choices and there is a big difference between that position and a position that right and wrong are fungible.
Other countries, other groups may believe differently then American standards. A culture that mutilates women, kills homosexuals, and kills people who become Christians is wrong even though that culture exists. I acknowledge they exist. We can co-exist with them but not abandon our beliefs that their actions break the basic rights and freedoms each person is entitled to. I am not a relativist and my discussion was of the dangers of relativism.
