That is the “everything is relative position”.
I believe that is a dangerous place to stand. Bill Clinton stood there and by doing so unravelled the fabric of our public square.
Civilization is based on shared acceptance of certain things as right & others as wrong. Otherwise we regress to “might makes right”.
America is based on shared adherence to the Declaration of Independence & the Constitution which enumerates our basic God given rights that cannot be abridged by man.
If we travel to other Countries we cannot count on them to respect our rights, we can be murdered, enslaved etc without anyone lifting a finger and with no recourse. Although those things can also happen in the USA, acts by criminals who believe that rights & freedoms are in the eye of the beholder, those actions are wrong, that belief is wrong and being American means fighting to have those wrongs redressed & those rights applied to every American.
“Civilization is based on shared acceptance of certain things as right & others as wrong.”
There have been many civilizations with many different definitions of right and wrong.
Otherwise we regress to “might makes right”.”
This one has been prevalent throughout history. I do not see this changing soon.
“If we travel to other Countries we cannot count on them to respect our rights, we can be murdered, enslaved etc without anyone lifting a finger and with no recourse.”
It sounds like you believe we are the only civilized country ?
I wish I could wear your rosy tinted glasses
p.s.
Frank L Baum opined that wearing of clothes determines if your are civilized or not
