Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Proverbs 20
Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler;
whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
2 A king’s wrath strikes terror like the roar of a lion;
those who anger him forfeit their lives.
3 It is to one’s honor to avoid strife,
but every fool is quick to quarrel.
4 Sluggards do not plow in season;
so at harvest time they look but find nothing.
5 The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters,
but one who has insight draws them out.
6 Many claim to have unfailing love,
but a faithful person who can find?
7 The righteous lead blameless lives;
blessed are their children after them.
8 When a king sits on his throne to judge,
he winnows out all evil with his eyes.
9 Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure;
I am clean and without sin”?
10 Differing weights and differing measures—
the Lord detests them both.
11 Even small children are known by their actions,
so is their conduct really pure and upright?
12 Ears that hear and eyes that see—
the Lord has made them both.
13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;
stay awake and you will have food to spare.
14 “It’s no good, it’s no good!” says the buyer—
then goes off and boasts about the purchase.
15 Gold there is, and rubies in abundance,
but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel.
16 Take the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger;
hold it in pledge if it is done for an outsider.
17 Food gained by fraud tastes sweet,
but one ends up with a mouth full of gravel.
18 Plans are established by seeking advice;
so if you wage war, obtain guidance.
19 A gossip betrays a confidence;
so avoid anyone who talks too much.
20 If someone curses their father or mother,
their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness.
21 An inheritance claimed too soon
will not be blessed at the end.
22 Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!”
Wait for the Lord, and he will avenge you.
23 The Lord detests differing weights,
and dishonest scales do not please him.
24 A person’s steps are directed by the Lord.
How then can anyone understand their own way?
25 It is a trap to dedicate something rashly
and only later to consider one’s vows.
26 A wise king winnows out the wicked;
he drives the threshing wheel over them.
27 The human spirit is[a] the lamp of the Lord
that sheds light on one’s inmost being.
28 Love and faithfulness keep a king safe;
through love his throne is made secure.
29 The glory of young men is their strength,
gray hair the splendor of the old.
30 Blows and wounds scrub away evil,
and beatings purge the inmost being.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name Over All The Earth!
We Worship and Bow Down Before You,
Oh Father,
For You,
and You Alone Are Worthy;
You Alone Are Holy;
You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham!
Abba Father, We Are in Awe of Your Magnificence!
We Thank You For Your Glorious Living Word,
Which is Not Only a Guide For Living,
But the Very Foundation of our Laws and Our Liberties.
We Thank You For Your Magnificent Word,
Which We Beg You to Engrave Deeply
Upon The Tablets of Our Hearts.
Indeed, Teach us, Oh LORD, and give us a heart of wisdom, That we may rightly discern Your Will for our lives in these troubling times.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.
God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mom (RIP) was a tireless advocate for the elderly. An erudite letter-writer, she wrote to newspapers, politicians, and organizations, protesting the poor treatment of elders in our society. She volunteered in nursing homes, schlepping wheelchairs, and running singalongs, trivia games, reminiscence groups, and holiday parties. She would sometimes show up at my gigs and lead the singing, comfort patients, and tell stories. She also sang with some other artists in the area, and seemed to know every lyric of every pop song from the Gay Nineties to the Early Fifties. I had a website at the time for my music business, and gave her a whole page for her blog, which featured a civilian's view of WW2. A large group of people followed her blog and responded on her thread with reminiscences of their own. The site is lost to cyberspace now, but I have Hard Copy, in her own Palmer-Method handwriting.
Mom was not happy with "The Cult of Youth" which had crept into our culture. She used to refer to the apocryphal story about the "Eskimos putting their Old People on an Ice Floe" to express her disgust with the disrespect given to the elderly as society became more and more "Youth Oriented". We all thought she was exagerating.
The I started getting old. At age 50, or thereabout, I becan to notice that cashiers, tellers, medical staff, even wait staff in restaurants, were starting to talk over me, interrupt me, ignore me, and even scold and belittle me in public. Here was someone barely out of high school with pink hair and a nose ring, talking down to me as if I were an idiot. Since I was already a biker, I began to dress like one, complete with leather and chains and mysterious bulges around my beltline. THEN I got some RESPECT! LOL!
This morning, while meditating on Today's Reading, I looked up the Ice Floe Story. It seems that, while not a complete myth, it was very rare. But it DID happen. The last known incident was in 1939, when Mom was 14 years old. I know how sensitive a young adolescent can be, and, even though the US was in the throes of the Great Depression (another one of Mom's journalistic subjects) the report of the incident must have been traumatic. As if Famine and Deprivation was an excuse to terminate the elderly! Of course, just a few years later, it would be revealed that Nazi Germany was doing that on an industrial scale.
Recent events have caused me to remember Mom's stories. The vile behavior of certain governors during COVID that killed thousands of Moms, Dads, Grandmas, and Grandpas will be a mark of shame for our Nation for a long time. As far back as the book of Exodus, we are instructed to honor our Parents and Elders. It is a major tenet in the Judeo-Christian worldview. It was enblazoned over the doors of the Jewish Nursing Home where I worked:
"Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother."
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.

Psalm 17
A Prayer of David.
1 Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry;
give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit.
2 From you let my vindication come;
let your eyes see the right.
3 If you try my heart, if you visit me by night,
if you test me, you will find no wickedness in me;
my mouth does not transgress.
4 As for what others do, by the word of your lips
I have avoided the ways of the violent.
5 My steps have held fast to your paths;
my feet have not slipped.
6 I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
incline your ear to me, hear my words.
7 Wondrously show your steadfast love,
O saviour of those who seek refuge
from their adversaries at your right hand.
8 Guard me as the apple of the eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings,
9 from the wicked who despoil me,
my deadly enemies who surround me.
10 They close their hearts to pity;
with their mouths they speak arrogantly.
11 They track me down;* now they surround me;
they set their eyes to cast me to the ground.
12 They are like a lion eager to tear,
like a young lion lurking in ambush.
13 Rise up, O Lord, confront them, overthrow them!
By your sword deliver my life from the wicked,
14 from mortals—by your hand, O Lord—
from mortals whose portion in life is in this world.
May their bellies be filled with what you have stored up for them;
may their children have more than enough;
may they leave something over to their little ones.
15 As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness;
when I awake I shall be satisfied, beholding your likeness.

The unborn and the elderly...both a target of genocide.
Few years back I recall stopping at a fast food place and placing an order. Then a teen girl in very short shorts and halter top, behind me, asked the clerk—a teenage boy—about the shakes. He totally ignored me and served the girl. But in his world, I did not exist.
Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Thank you for this. My daughter who just graduated from nursing school has a great and marvelous heart for the elderly. She is working in a nursing home right now. She is pregnant and just yesterday she was telling me how hard it is to see the ones in hospice leading toward death and she is carrying life in her. The two contrasts. She has said always that she wanted to work the those who are close to death so that they may leave this world with dignity and love and not just another number being subtracted from the population logs. Please say a prayer for her too as we join together praying for the Peace of Jerusalem, and for all here today.
