Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Proverbs 18

1. An unfriendly person pursues selfish ends
    and against all sound judgment starts quarrels.

2  Fools find no pleasure in understanding
    but delight in airing their own opinions.

3  When wickedness comes, so does contempt,
    and with shame comes reproach.

4  The words of the mouth are deep waters,
    but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream.

5  It is not good to be partial to the wicked
    and so deprive the innocent of justice.

6  The lips of fools bring them strife,
    and their mouths invite a beating.

7  The mouths of fools are their undoing,
    and their lips are a snare to their very lives.

8  The words of a gossip are like choice morsels;
    they go down to the inmost parts.

9  One who is slack in his work
    is brother to one who destroys.

10  The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
    the righteous run to it and are safe.

11  The wealth of the rich is their fortified city;
    they imagine it a wall too high to scale.

12  Before a downfall the heart is haughty,
    but humility comes before honor.

13  To answer before listening—
    that is folly and shame.

14  The human spirit can endure in sickness,
    but a crushed spirit who can bear?

15  The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge,
    for the ears of the wise seek it out.

16  A gift opens the way
    and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.

17  In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right,
    until someone comes forward and cross-examines.

18  Casting the lot settles disputes
    and keeps strong opponents apart.

19  A brother wronged is more unyielding than a fortified city;
    disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel.

20  From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled;
    with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied.

21  The tongue has the power of life and death,
    and those who love it will eat its fruit.

22  He who finds a wife finds what is good
    and receives favor from the Lord.

23  The poor plead for mercy,
    but the rich answer harshly.

24  One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
    but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Only You, Oh LORD reign on High,
You Are clothed with majesty;
You have girded Yourself with strength.
Surely the world is established,
Your throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting.

Abba Father!
You Are Clothed in Majesty!
You Are The Creator of All That Is!
And You Tell Us in Your Word,
That You Are The All in All,
And That In You,
All Things Hold Together!
You Are The Answer To All Our Questions,
All Our Theories,
All Our Wonders!

Almighty Father,
teach us daily that it is You,
not we, who are in control.
Take away our Pride
In thinking we can micromanage every situation,
not depending on You,
but doing what is right in our own eyes.
Teach us to welcome the assistance and advice of our loved ones and brethren,
As You see fit to delegate the ministry among Your Children.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday, the residents of our town received a notice that there are dangerous chemicals in our water. They have shut down one well and are working on several others. We were instructed to not drink or cook with our tap water. My sister and I scrambled to get to the store before closing to buy water. After schlepping home the big water bottles and setting them up, I wondered: "How long had the water been tainted? What have I been drinking and how may it affect me? Why didn't I taste a difference? How long will this go on? Will they let us know when the water is safe?"

Something as pure and essential as water is a perfect metaphor for our lives. Secret sins can pile up and not change our appearance at all. Also, we often can't detect it in others, no matter how wise, discerning, or experienced we may be.

The Word of God is not cryptic or arcane. It is not like a "magical" text that requires secret initiation to understand properly. It can be translated into hundreds of languages, and doesn't lose its meaning. But, like water, secret "additives" can corrupt and distort its Message. That is why it contains many warnings about not adding or removing anything.

And you know what? This coffee I am drinking right now, made with pure spring bottled water, is... delicious!
