Pope responds to Israeli criticism over comments on Jewish law

VATICAN CITY, Sept 6 (Reuters) - Pope Francis has moved to allay Jewish concerns over comments he made about their books of sacred law, following a demand for clarification from Israel's top rabbis, Vatican and Jewish community sources said on Monday.

Last month Reuters reported exclusively that Rabbi Rasson Arousi, chair of the Commission of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel for Dialogue with the Holy See, had written a stern letter to the Vatican, saying Francis' comments appeared to suggest that the Torah, or Jewish law, was obsolete. read more

At a general audience on Aug. 11, the pope said: "The law (Torah) however does not give life."

"It does not offer the fulfilment of the promise because it is not capable of being able to fulfil it ... Those who seek life need to look to the promise and to its fulfilment in Christ.

“Examples please?”

Genesis 3:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

(In case you request clarity, it was Jesus Who bruised the head of satan-the serpent, at Calvary 2,000 years ago.)

Again, I ask, Who is represented as the Sacrificial Lamb slain in the Temple?

Again, I ask, Who is represented as the Sacrificial Lamb slain in the Temple?

Surely you are able to answer this right?

Another question.....

In the Book of Genesis, when the Rock was smitten, Who did the Rock represent?

Here’s a clue, it wasn’t Peter ;>)

I also recognize the validity of “sola Scriptura”

Does your sola scriptura" include the New Testament?

Let's not forget that the Angel of the Lord is most likely Jesus. Many Church fathers held to this position as the Angel of the Lord makes statements that only God could make. He (the AotL) not only speaks for God he speaks as God.

We also have the Son of Man appearing in the furnance with the three.

Another great point. There was a fourth man in the furnace with Shadrach, Meshack and Abendigo.

Shame that so many fail to recognize Him today. But so often false doctrine is exalted over the Word of God.

You do understand that if you set aside every Catholic tradition and man made doctrines you would have NO religion, don’t you?

Already stated the obvious

Actually, you stated the opposite:

"From a Biblical perspective, according to Scripture, speaking as one who is Born Again in the Shed Blood of Jesus Christ, there is far more validity to the Torah then there is to the added books of Roman catholicism." patriot torch

roman catholicism has exalted itself as well as the pope above Jesus Christ.

Not true.

The Bible is quite clear, the Scriptures cannot be added to or taken from. Good day.

So? The Catholic Church has not added to Scripture.

Do you mean Old Testament books like Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, etc.? They were part of Scripture from the start. The Protestants removed those books.

The Eastern Orthodox Churches also recognize those books. More, in fact. The Catholic Bible only has the first two books of Maccabees. The Greek Orthodox Bible includes the third.

In Genesis 3 the LORD is speaking to Eve the entire time and calls her woman. It would be strange that in 3:15 this pronoun should change from referring to Eve to a future woman. Regardless of who this woman is, the verse indicates the Messiah will come from the lineage of Eve through her son Seth which will eventually end with a woman giving birth to the Messiah.

Thank God that is not true. Just another man made doctrine. Unless you care to show me in Scripture where that is true.

I’m thinking the pope has brought this up twice to Israel because it would not be good for the False Prophet to pi$$ of the Jews.

No one p*ss*d off the Jews more than did Jesus. (Not all Jews, of course. Some because Christians.)

But so what? The Truth of Christ has p*ss*d off many people over the centuries, Jews and gentiles alike. That doesn't mean Christians should stop speaking the Truth.

And I repeat again what I stated....

“From a Biblical perspective, according to Scripture, speaking as one who is Born Again in the Shed Blood of Jesus Christ, there is far more validity to the Torah then there is to the added books of Roman catholicism.” patriot torch

-—— let me break it down to you so your able to comprehend:

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy.....all applicable to the testing of Scripture

2’nd Timothy 3:
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Added books....Tobias, Judith, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus / Sirach, Baruch, and 1 Maccabees and 2 Maccabees.

Thereby in conclusion we find only 66 INSPIRED BOOKS OF THE BIBLE.

Again I harken back to Scripture, take heed:

Revelation 22:

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

Sorry. I don't believe that B.S. about "sola scriptura". Take it up with Luther and continue to "sin boldly" as he advised.
