Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

PROVERBS 7

Warning Against the Adulterous Woman

7  My son, keep my words
    and store up my commands within you.

2  Keep my commands and you will live;
    guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.

3  Bind them on your fingers;
    write them on the tablet of your heart.

4  Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
    and to insight, “You are my relative.”

5  They will keep you from the adulterous woman,
    from the wayward woman with her seductive words.

6  At the window of my house
    I looked down through the lattice.

7  I saw among the simple,
    I noticed among the young men,
    a youth who had no sense.

8  He was going down the street near her corner,
    walking along in the direction of her house

9  at twilight, as the day was fading,
    as the dark of night set in.

10  Then out came a woman to meet him,
    dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.

11  (She is unruly and defiant,
    her feet never stay at home;

12  now in the street, now in the squares,
    at every corner she lurks.)

13  She took hold of him and kissed him
    and with a brazen face she said:

14  “Today I fulfilled my vows,
    and I have food from my fellowship offering at home.

15  So I came out to meet you;
    I looked for you and have found you!

16  I have covered my bed     with colored linens from Egypt.

17  I have perfumed my bed     with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.

18  Come, let’s drink deeply of love till morning;
    let’s enjoy ourselves with love!

19  My husband is not at home;
    he has gone on a long journey.

20  He took his purse filled with money
    and will not be home till full moon.”

21  With persuasive words she led him astray;
    she seduced him with her smooth talk.

22  All at once he followed her
    like an ox going to the slaughter,
like a deer[a] stepping into a noose[b]

23      till an arrow pierces his liver,
like a bird darting into a snare,
    little knowing it will cost him his life.

24  Now then, my sons, listen to me;
    pay attention to what I say.

25  Do not let your heart turn to her ways
    or stray into her paths.

26  Many are the victims she has brought down;
    her slain are a mighty throng.

27  Her house is a highway to the grave,
    leading down to the chambers of death.

Oh LORD, Our God!
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
Rock of All Ages!
It is You, and You Alone,
Who Created All Things,
And You Alone Who Know The End from The Beginning,
And the Beginning from The End.

Thank You, Dear Father For Your Holy Word!
Thank You For Your Precious Wisdom
Which You Have preserved for us to this day!

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday, I shared a true story about a "Proverbs 31" kind of Woman. It also dovetailed nicely with the Chapter of the Day, which extols the diligence of the Ant. Today's "Proverbs Woman" has a whole different story, and a whole different kind of "Proverbs Woman."

Without getting into a fierce Fire-and-Brimstone condemnation of the Woman, bear in mind that both she and her potential victim have a choice to make. She is not in the "Profession" because she has to be. Nowhere in the Chapter is any indication that she is a slave, or that she is under the control of a procurer. She has chosen this path for herself. The young man also has a choice. He is not enslaved by lust to the point where he can't walk away. By going to her "like a lamb to the slaughter", he is relinquishing his own independence and freedom.

Both people in this sad scene can choose not to participate, but relinquish that right. The both have the opportunity to "Choose Life". The Book of Joshua says:

"Choose this day whom you will serve...as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

If neither of these people had any choice, we could not admonish them, From the tone of this Chapter, you may think that Solomon didn't like women...but wait until tomorrow! You will see a most beautiful picture of a Woman...Wisdom Personified!

Psalm 127

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.

1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labour in vain.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

I just read a news item that six airplanes full of Christians and Afghan Allies are being held hostage by the Taliban. I am not sure if these are the Charters that were sent by Glenn Beck's organization or some other private fund. However, in my Daily devotional Reading today, a Prayer of Moses, interceding for his people, came up.

(Numbers 14:13-20 NIV)
13 Moses said to the Lord, “Then the Egyptians will hear about it! By your power you brought these people up from among them. 14 And they will tell the inhabitants of this land about it. They have already heard that you, Lord, are with these people and that you, Lord, have been seen face to face, that your cloud stays over them, and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. 15 If you put all these people to death, leaving none alive, the nations who have heard this report about you will say, 16 ‘The Lord was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them on oath, so he slaughtered them in the wilderness.’

17 “Now may the Lord’s strength be displayed, just as you have declared: 18 ‘The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.’ 19 In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now.”

20 The Lord replied, “I have forgiven them, as you asked.
