Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 145[a]

A psalm of praise. Of David.

1  I will exalt you, my God the King;
    I will praise your name for ever and ever.

2  Every day I will praise you
    and extol your name for ever and ever.

3  Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
    his greatness no one can fathom.

4  One generation commends your works to another;
    they tell of your mighty acts.

5  They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
    and I will meditate on your wonderful works.[b]

6  They tell of the power of your awesome works—
    and I will proclaim your great deeds.

7  They celebrate your abundant goodness
    and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

8  The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
    slow to anger and rich in love.

9  The Lord is good to all;
    he has compassion on all he has made.

10  All your works praise you, Lord;
    your faithful people extol you.

11  They tell of the glory of your kingdom     and speak of your might,

12  so that all people may know of your mighty acts
    and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.

13  Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
    and your dominion endures through all generations.
The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
    and faithful in all he does.[c]

14  The Lord upholds all who fall
    and lifts up all who are bowed down.

15  The eyes of all look to you,
    and you give them their food at the proper time.

16  You open your hand
    and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

17  The Lord is righteous in all his ways
    and faithful in all he does.

18  The Lord is near to all who call on him,
    to all who call on him in truth.

19  He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
    he hears their cry and saves them.

20  The Lord watches over all who love him,
    but all the wicked he will destroy.

21  My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.
    Let every creature praise his holy name
    for ever and ever.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

It seems that my mobile home is playing "Whack-a-Mole" with me. As soon as I fix one problem, another one surfaces. I was beginning to feel a bit sorry for myself, and then heard that "my-sister's-grandson's-step'grandfather's" oil tank ruptured, filling the garage floor with a 3" flood of #2 heating Oil, while the aforementioned is in the hospital very sick with COVID. The whole family has had to move out of the house and it is an environmental disaster for which they are NOT insured. That beats my tale of woe by a longshot.

Even though we are struggling, it can't compare with what is going on in Afghanistan. I can't help but remember nmy dear friend (the one who died in my arms in the helicopter over an erupting volcano...long story) who smuggled Bibles under a Burka in that part of the world. She never got caught, but I can only imagine what would have happened if she had.

Now, the taliban are going around marking the houses of those they plan to torture and murder for the "crime" of being a Christian, a Missionary, or even just a translator for the NATO troops. Even though I know that they are in this position because of the actions of an illegitimate, leftist administration, it still fills me with shame and remorse for my country.

Nevertheless, these last five Psalms are Hymns of Praise. As we read them, remember that David did not have a "Golden-Age" type of reign. His tenure was filled with warfare, bloodshed, rebellion, civil war, usurpation, and horrible family issues. His own sons participated in rape, murder, and insurrection. David didn't even get to build the temple that was the desire of his heart.

And yet, he still praised the Lord, because the Lord is WORTHY of Praise.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Psalm 20

To the leader. A Psalm of David.

1 The Lord answer you in the day of trouble!
The name of the God of Jacob protect you!
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary,
and give you support from Zion.
3 May he remember all your offerings,
and regard with favour your burnt sacrifices.
Selah

4 May he grant you your heart’s desire,
and fulfil all your plans.
5 May we shout for joy over your victory,
and in the name of our God set up our banners.
May the Lord fulfil all your petitions.

6 Now I know that the Lord will help his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with mighty victories by his right hand.
7 Some take pride in chariots, and some in horses,
but our pride is in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They will collapse and fall,
but we shall rise and stand upright.

9 Give victory to the king, O Lord;
answer us when we call.

We don’t have to look far to see others in more distress than ourselves, do we?

I remember the story of your friend passing away in HI but not passing out Bibles in Afghanistan. What can any of us say about what’s happening there now? We all feel the same way. Heartbreaking to hear all the Afghan war veterans speaking on the issue..AND the Gold Star families. SHAME on the administration - there is a lot of blame to share...just pick a name!

Well, originally, she had been behind the iron Curtain, so the religious persecution was of a different nature (Communism). But after the fall of the USSR, her missionary society (which I won’t name so nobody gets in trouble) shifted their attention to fundamentalist islamic nations.
