Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 126

A song of ascents.

1  When the Lord restored the fortunes of[a] Zion,
we were like those who dreamed.[b]2

Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”

3  The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy.

4  Restore our fortunes,[c] Lord,
    like streams in the Negev.

5  Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy.

6  Those who go out weeping,
    carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
    carrying sheaves with them.

Footnotes

a Psalm 126:1 Or Lord brought back the captives to
b Psalm 126:1 Or those restored to health
c Psalm 126:4 Or Bring back our captives

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

A Song of Ascents.

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
Hallowed and Holy,
Righteous and Just,
Overflowing With Goodness and Perfection!
As We Ascend the Next Step in Your Songs of Degrees,
We Are Reminded Once Again of Your Ultimate,
Eternal, Everlasting, Perfect,
Faithfulness to Your Promises,
And the Infallibility and Immutability of Your Holy Word!

1. When the LORD brought back the captivity of Zion,
We were like those who dream.
2. Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
And our tongue with singing.
Then they said among the nations,
“The LORD has done great things for them.”
3. The LORD has done great things for us,
And we are glad.

4. Bring back our captivity, O LORD,
As the streams in the South.

Is There Anything Too Difficult For You, Oh LORD?
You, Who Created The Galaxies,
The Great Star Clusters,
The Black Holes and Singularities?
You, Who Knit me together in the Secret Place of my mother's womb?
You, Who Devised and Designed the Intricate DNA of every living thing,
Each One Unique, After its Kind?
Can a Nation Be Born in a Day?
Can a People be Gathered From the Four Corners of the Earth?
Can an Ancient Language be revived and used every day for commerce and living?
Can a People defend themselves against an entire hostile planet and survive?
If YOU say it is so,
It Is So.
WHO are WE to Re-Interpret, Subrogate,
or Replace YOUR Word?
Who are WE to Question YOUR Promises,
Your Covenants,
Your Precepts?

5. Those who sow in tears
Shall reap in joy.
6. He who continually goes forth weeping,
Bearing seed for sowing,
Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing,
Bringing his sheaves with him.

We Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Word.
We Pray That Those Who Sow in Tears,
Shall Reap in Joy,
According To Your Promise.
We Pray For Our Own Nation,
That You will Restore Honor, Dignity, and Prosperity,
According to Your Will.

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 84

To the leader: according to The Gittith. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.

1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of hosts!
2 My soul longs, indeed it faints
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh sing for joy
to the living God.

3 Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
my King and my God.
4 Happy are those who live in your house,
ever singing your praise.
Selah

5 Happy are those whose strength is in you,
in whose heart are the highways to Zion.*
6 As they go through the valley of Baca
they make it a place of springs;
the early rain also covers it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength;
the God of gods will be seen in Zion.

8 O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
give ear, O God of Jacob!
Selah
9 Behold our shield, O God;
look on the face of your anointed.

10 For a day in your courts is better
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than live in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
he bestows favour and honour.
No good thing does the Lord withhold
from those who walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
happy is everyone who trusts in you.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

My native city, Boston, is a seaport. At one time, the docks were crowded with wooden sailing ships, their masts sillouetted against the sky. Now, massive container ships and tankers unload their cargo near the Mystic River, and elegant cruise ships dock near Southie at the International Trade Center Pier. It is the harbor and two large rivers (The Mystic and the Charles) that make Boston a center for commerce and travel. The same can be said for New York City, situated on an island where several rivers feed into New York Harbor. The Port of Miami is huge, and further west, great cities follow the course of the Mississippi River down to New Orleans, another major Seaport. Big inland cities are also a kind of "port", as a nexus of roads cause a city to spring up and grow. Atlanta, GA, and Damascus, Syria are this type of city.

Jerusalem, however, doesn't have a Seaport. It is not on a great river. There is no Nile, Euphrates, or Mississippi nearby to transport goods. It is not at a nexus of roads, and is somewhat difficult to approach. Situated on a hill in the middle of nowhere, it is reached by "Ascending" up a rugged road (since paved, of course!) And yet, it seems that not a day goes by without this ancient city, without a seaport, without a major river, without a nexus of roads on a trade route, is in the NEWS.

As I mentioned in an earlier Post, the Songs of Ascent are distinguished by their expressions of God's RELATIONSHIP with Israel, and Jerusalem in particular. Mystics may proclaim that it is due to an "energy portal" or some such nonsense. Muslims may claim that there is a legend that Mohammed visited here once and flew to heaven on a flying horse, but there is no mention of that in the Q'oran. Former PM Bejamin Netanyahu said that Jerusalem is mentioned over 300 times in the NEW Testament, and many, many more times in the OLD Testament, so it looks like, at least from the Ancient Texts, that Jerusalem is a City that is very special to the God of the Judeo-Christian Scriptures.

And that's probably the reason everybody is fighting over it.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Thanks! After the very formal Acrostic prayers of Psalm 119, I had to handle the Songs of Ascents a little differently.

Most of the Psalms in this section are rather short, so I can include them in the prayers.
