Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 123

A song of ascents.

1  I lift up my eyes to you,
    to you who sit enthroned in heaven.

2  As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
    as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
    till he shows us his mercy.

3  Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,
    for we have endured no end of contempt.

4  We have endured no end
    of ridicule from the arrogant,
    of contempt from the proud.

A Song of Ascents.

Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name!
You Alone Are Worthy Of Praise and Worship,
You Alone Are The One True God
Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, and Transcendent,
Yet You Condescend to touch the Lives of those who love You!

1. Unto You I lift up my eyes,
O You who dwell in the heavens.
2. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters,
As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,
So our eyes look to the LORD our God,
Until He has mercy on us.

Have Mercy Upon Us, Oh Gracious LORD,
In Our Pilgrimage of Praise,
Ascending by Degrees to Offer You the Fruit of Our Lips,
The Sacrifice of Praise and Thanksgiving.

3. Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us!

Father, the contempt and scorn of the enemy is sometimes overwhelming!
But You Are King!
You Are LORD!
Forgive us for forgetting that sometimes.

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

When I lived in Florida, I worked briefly in a music store. One day, a good-looking young man came in and started playing the drums. He was so good that I felt compelled to grab a bass off the wall and jam for just a few minutes (not much!), but it was exhilerating to play with such an acomplished drummer. We ended up talking for a little while, but later I found out that he was the son of one of the most famous drummers in the world, who played in my all-time most FAVORITE rock band. Not to give too broad a hint, but the illustration on this particular band's first album was the Hindenburg. OK. I think you got the clue. Anyway, this "Rock Star" and I had a lovely conversation about children, education, music, PA Systems, vocal technique, and other stuff, and he really seemed to respect my opinion. Of course, I didn't realize who this man was until after he left the store. Then the rest of the staff had a good laugh when they told me!

What my story illustrates is that some very wealthy and famous people can be lovely individuals underneath all that fame and fortune. "Jason" seemed very happy that I didn't know who he was, and that he was able to talk freely with somebody about a myriad of subjects without being treated like he was some kind of "god". That's the difference between a regular person and "The Elite".

The "Elite" are very scornful and dismissive towards us "regular people." Certain factors like wealth, education, and power, can turn a seemingly meek and amiable person into a sneering, haughty tyrant. We see this in Business, Entertainment, Religion, Politics, and Interpersonal Relationships.

Right now, our nation is embroiled in a huge Power Struggle between the "Elite" and the "Regular People". It's an Ancient Struggle, and seems to be a human condition related to the original sin in the Garden. I treasure my freedom, and am very grateful for the gifts God has given me, but the wish to control others is a foreign notion. One thing I DO know is that I hate being controlled by others. Long before I embraced Christianity, my motto was "Whatever floats your boat...just don't drill holes in MINE." That's an OK philosophy for a non-believer, but what do you do when you know the World is Perishing? Of course, I need to stop the leaks in the unbeliever's boat, and rescue him from drowning! And so, I struggle with that. It is a thin line between Sharing the Good News, or seeking control over others.

The "Elites", however, are not interested in letting me sail along. They are intent upon telling me HOW to sail my little inoffensive boat, what kind of safety equipment I must carry, what course I must take (and pay for) to be allowed to sail my boat, what channels I must travel in, what license, registration, permits, inspections, and equipment I must have on board. They claim they are free to board my boat at any time and demand to see my credentials.

"The Ocean is a big, dangerous place," they say, "And we are doing this for your own good!."

Indeed, the ocean is a dangerous place, and I have considered that. The world itself is a dangerous place, and "regular people" somehow manage to navigate these rough waters without the "Elite" controlling their every move. Even with all their money and power, the "Elite" don't seem to be content until they own ALL the boats, and all the people in them.

I wish more of the "Rich and famous" could be like Jason.

Today's "Psalm of Ascents" speaks of the contempt and scorn that the World has for Jerusalem, and the Devotion of the Believer to the One True God.

...It has come to light the elites want far more than just to control our boats and journey. Even more than taking our boats and locking us away. I fear they are dead serious wanting to fully reduce not only our activities and possessions. But our existence too.

The funny thing is, when the elites leave the little boats alone, everybody gets along fine. There is enough work and money to go around and society flourishes in freedom.
