Clearly - 'if we persevere' - otherwise if you don't stick close to the beliefs of Christ, you can lose them, like the seed that flowers for a while then withers...

One that follows Christ and lives a chaste life to save souls. What greater gift can a man do to give his life for another so that they may have eternal life with God..

You were lucky. Heard of a group of seminarians who went on a retreat with him. He chose the rooming assignments and when only one person was left, that guy was left to share a room with him.
