Archbishop Cordileone of San Francisco celebrates the ‘Mass of the Americas’ using the extraordinary form of the Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
Pope Francis’ motu proprio Traditionis Custodes has restricted celebration of the traditional Latin Mass in a way that some fear could cause more division, despite the Pope’s stated aim to achieve greater unity within the Church and curb what he calls “divisive tendencies” among those attached to the older form of the Mass.
Concerns raised with Traditionis Custodes (Guardians of the Tradition) released July 16 include questions regarding the premises on which it is based and distress over its treatment of Catholics who have sought to remain faithful to the Church even as they have struggled with liturgical and other reforms. And others have questioned why such extreme measures were applied to a liturgical matter when the Church is burdened by seemingly weightier issues.
Various U.S. bishops have sought to reassure traditional Catholics, allowing continuation of what the document calls the “Mass of the 1962 Roman Missal,” while other bishops have taken a wait-and-pray attitude, asking for time to digest the terms of the motu proprio and the accompanying letter from Pope Francis.
Traditionis Custodes comes at a time when the 1962 Mass has attracted more Catholics, some of whom discovered it at churches that remained open during COVID-19 restrictions, while many churches shut down and limited access to the sacraments. Before 2020, the traditional Mass became more widely celebrated through Pope Benedict XVI’s 2007 motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, . According to the “Latin Mass Directory,” there are 657 venues in the United States that offer the extraordinary from of the Mass.

O’Bungles in red shoes will likely get the opposite of what he’s trying to accomplish.
Just as did the ‘original’ between 2009 & 2017 achieved.
Is there a Catholic Church TEA Party brewing???
Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon, said on Twitter, “I need time to pray, reflect and study this new law so that I can respond in mercy, charity and truth.”
That’s the reason behind the Motu Proprio. They don’t like the fact that the Latin Mass and Traditionalist wing is 7 times as popular among young people than Vatican II
Liberalism.
I go to TLM and the priest started out his homily by saying, in a very loud voice. “For those who are worried the Latin Mass is here to stay. Do not give it another thought.” The church also does the NO mass. The Latin Mass is the only type of mass that this priest does. If he was told he had to do the NO he’d quit being a priest. He’s also as conservative as they came and has given homilies on Marxists trying to take over the church. Last year when BLM and ANTIFA were burning their way across America he called them thugs, whose main goal was the church, but said the church would stand till the end of time.
All three qualities that Bergoglio lack.
I am a convert to Catholicism. I like the Latin because of its Universality. You can go anywhere across the globe and participate in the Mass.
The idea that the Vernacular was needed reeked of condescension, IMHO. You stupid dolts in the pews are too ignorant to understand Latin, and too stupid to read the Vernacular right next to it in a Missal.
I can do pretty well with French, English, Spanish, but most others, especially Slavic, I struggle to keep up.
I hope he takes all the time in the world to “refect and study”.
And what about “accompaniment”?
Bergoglio wants to “accompany” adulterers and homosexuals on their path to perdition, but not his traditional Catholics on their path to salvation. Some “good shepherd” he is.
