ROME – In the first open debate in the Italian legislature of a controversial anti-homophobia bill following an unprecedented complaint from the Vatican on grounds of religious freedom, the bill survived two significant hurdles in the senate Tuesday and could be voted into law as early as next week.
In a July 13 Senate assembly, lawmakers fiercely debated the so-called “ddl Zan,” with right wing politicians pushing for it to be returned to the Senate Justice Committee for modification, and leftist parties arguing that after eight months of deliberation, with the bill having been approved by the House in February, voting should proceed as scheduled.
After presenting arguments over the constitutionality of the bill, senators voted 136-124, with four abstentions, that it does not violate the Italian constitution. That’s a procedural step that must come before approval of the law itself, and the vote often serves as a litmus test of where senators stand.
Following the vote, general discussion of the bill will continue through Thursday and lawmakers have until Tuesday, July 20 to submit proposed amendments. Once the amendments are submitted, they will be voted on before the bill itself is put to a vote. The ddl Zan, named for openly gay parliamentarian Alessandro Zan who introduced it, has already been approved by the lower chamber of the Italian parliament in November.
Debate Tuesday fell along predictably partisan lines.
Center-right politicians asked that the bill to be sent back to the Justice Committee for modification, largely over concerns that the current text threatens freedom of expression, while left wing politicians pushed for the bill to be voted on immediately.

It is more often the gays that seek the conflict, not the church. They want affirmation of their behavior and do not go to repent nor to learn. There are many feel good churches they could go to, but instead they seek out conflict such as with the R. Catholic church, because they dare say that homosexuality is a sin and won’t wed same sex couples.
A Christian church CANNOT condone sin. Any sin for that matter.
I will claim that even if a prominent and known gay person went to the most conservative denominations for service, they would not encounter any issues if they merely stay respectful, pray, are courteous to others... If the topic were to come up (say in a group study or service), that is where the issues arise, because today the gay subculture has been taught to be assertive, proud (with a rainbow flag waving at a parade, right?) and when the church presents this behavior as a sin, the gay person feels empowered and righteous when they shoot their mouth off defending a biblically indefensible position. The gay person (not always, but often) cannot accept their behavior as sin and in fact is demanding affirmation from a group they sought out in the first place!
Call them what they are- homosexuals and let us heterosexuals have the use of the word ‘’gay’’ again to mean what it is intended to mean.

This is the outcome when you advertise this BS nonstop in movies, music and schools, tie benefits to it, and de-stigmatize it for what it is, a fetish. Why not a big breasts, boot/heel, latex, or leather fetish? At least that way we wouldn’t be condoning a “behaviour” which leads to negative outcomes: HIV/AIDS, suicide rates, syphilis:
