Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 119

Psalm 119[a]

ה He 33  Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees,
    that I may follow it to the end.[b]

34  Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law
    and obey it with all my heart.

35  Direct me in the path of your commands,
    for there I find delight.

36  Turn my heart toward your statutes
    and not toward selfish gain.

37  Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
    preserve my life according to your word.[c]

38  Fulfill your promise to your servant,
    so that you may be feared.

39  Take away the disgrace I dread,
    for your laws are good.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

My seven-year-old student Aria, sat next to me at the piano. By coincidence, both of us were wearing our waist-length black hair unbraided, and I remarked about it. Aria replied:

"Yeah, we both have long hair, but MY hair is longer than yours. Your hair only goes to your waist, and MY hair goes all the way to my chair seat!"



I carefully explained that it was not an accurate way to compare LENGTH, because I'm 5'2", and Aria is less than 4' tall. So, even if we both have hair down to our waists, my waist is a lot further from my head than hers is. A simple tape measure would prove me right, but I didn't press the issue. After all, I'm supposed to be teaching, not competing in a hair contest!

Anyway, this little story illustrates perfectly the purpose of Psalm 119. Psalm 119 extols the uprightness of God's Standard of Measurement, which is His Law, His Word, His Precepts. Modern-Day Epistemology tries to impose its own standard of measurement, the Measure of MAN, which, of course, will ALWAYS fall short.

Every Line in Today's Stanza Begins with the Letter "Hey".

It is similar to the English "H".

It's Spiritual meaning is that of The Divine Presence, The Life-Giving Breath of Our Creator, His Holy Spirit in Our Lives.

The Letter Appears TWICE in His Holy Name.

When Abram and Sarai had this Letter added to THEIR names, and became AbraHam and SaraH, it meant they were now set apart According to the Covenant.

Thank God For his Breath of Life, For His Amazing Grace, and His Incredible Mercy. Because, without it, none of us could EVER "Measure Up."
