Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 118
Psalm 118
1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
2 Let Israel say:
“His love endures forever.”
3 Let the house of Aaron say:
“His love endures forever.”
4 Let those who fear the Lord say:
“His love endures forever.”
5 When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
he brought me into a spacious place.
6 The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
7 The Lord is with me; he is my helper.
I look in triumph on my enemies.
8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in humans.
9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
10 All the nations surrounded me,
but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
11 They surrounded me on every side,
but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
12 They swarmed around me like bees,
but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;
in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
13 I was pushed back and about to fall,
but the Lord helped me.
14 The Lord is my strength and my defense[a];
he has become my salvation.
15 Shouts of joy and victory
resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!
16 The Lord’s right hand is lifted high;
the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
17 I will not die but live,
and will proclaim what the Lord has done.
18 The Lord has chastened me severely,
but he has not given me over to death.
19 Open for me the gates of the righteous; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord
through which the righteous may enter.
21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me;
you have become my salvation.
22 The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
23 the Lord has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 The Lord has done it this very day;
let us rejoice today and be glad.
25 Lord, save us!
Lord, grant us success!
26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
From the house of the Lord we bless you.[b]
27 The Lord is God,
and he has made his light shine on us.
With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession
up[c] to the horns of the altar.
28 You are my God, and I will praise you;
you are my God, and I will exalt you.
29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

There has been a new word added to the American lexicon. It is "KUZZACOVID". Here is its usage in a few sentences:
1. Sorry, we no longer provide free shipping "KUZZACOVID"
2. Sorry, you can't use those shopping bags"KUZZACOVID".
3. Sorry, you can't have live music in our restaurant"KUZZACOVID".
4. Sorry, that furniture will take five months to get to you "KUZZACOVID".
"KUZZACOVID" has become the Universal Excuse for EVERYTHING.
I attend a Pentecostal Church, and, although there is a definite order of service (there HAS to be, or it would be chaos!), it can be best described as "Non-Liturgical". The Opening Music could lead into a Prayer Service, or the Announcements could turn into a Sermon, or the Sermon could evolve into more music. As a musician, I need to be ready to leave my seat and go up to the piano or guitar if the Service goes in that direction. That is something I really enjoy, being actively involved in the Ministry of God's Word. Last Sunday was Communion Sunday, and the Prayer afterward evolved into The Lord's Prayer. Although this was not "scripted", the congregation immediately erupted into prayer with the Pastor, and with one voice, prayed the Prayer together. It was LOVELY.
Some churches say The Lord's Prayer every Sunday, and it is printed in the Prayer Book at a certain point in the Service. Of course, everybody knows it by heart anyway, but it is always said at that particular point in the Liturgy. I am not against Liturgy by any means, as some of the most magnificent music ever written is written to a Liturgy (Bach's Bminor Mass, Verdi's Requiem, Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil, etc), but there was something very special about an entire congregation bursting into The Lord's Prayer without being asked.
Today's Psalm often finds itself within a Liturgy. The reason is that it is very easily adapted into a Call-And-Response format, due to its rhythm and repeated refrain. The Ancient Greek word for this kind of Psalm is an "Antiphon" meaning "opposite sounds". Another name for it is a "Responsorial Psalm". These Psalms fit right in a Liturgical setting and are often included in Hymnals and Prayer Books. I love those old Hymnals, and there are a bunch of beautiful brand new ones in the attic of our church, but we can't use them right now.
"KUZZACOVID".

Psalm 75
To the leader: Do Not Destroy. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.
1 We give thanks to you, O God;
we give thanks; your name is near.
People tell of your wondrous deeds.
2 At the set time that I appoint
I will judge with equity.
3 When the earth totters, with all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep its pillars steady.
Selah
4 I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast’,
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn;
5 do not lift up your horn on high,
or speak with insolent neck.’
6 For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes lifting up;
7 but it is God who executes judgement,
putting down one and lifting up another.
8 For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup
with foaming wine, well mixed;
he will pour a draught from it,
and all the wicked of the earth
shall drain it down to the dregs.
9 But I will rejoice* for ever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 All the horns of the wicked I will cut off,
but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

I always love reading
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.Curious, I looked it up, and that phrase occurs seven times. (The internet can be such a wonderful tool.)
So, I say "AMEN!" to that and to your prayer.
