Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 116
Psalm 116
1 I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
2 Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me;
I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“Lord, save me!”
5 The Lord is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
6 The Lord protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.
8 For you, Lord, have delivered me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,
9 that I may walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.
10 I trusted in the Lord when I said,
“I am greatly afflicted”;
11 in my alarm I said,
“Everyone is a liar.”
12 What shall I return to the Lord
for all his goodness to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord.
14 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful servants.
16 Truly I am your servant, Lord;
I serve you just as my mother did;
you have freed me from my chains.
17 I will sacrifice a thank offering to you
and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the Lord—
in your midst, Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord.[a]

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Back in January 2020, before there was a name for COVID19, I was sick as a dog for about two weeks. I had gotten a flu shot, so I had no idea what was ailing me. It seemed like the flu, but much worse. I took to my bed and didn't eat much, and instead drank lots of water and herbal tea to stay hydrated. Poor Penny sat by my bed and just stared at me. She had never seen me so sick. I managed to let her out twice a day to do her business, but didn't do much else. I posted the thread rather perfuntorally and asked for prayer, and of course, you all came through with prayers of healing and encouragement. Then I got better, but had lost something in the process...MY VOICE!
Now, those of you who know me know that, in my youth, I had an "Industrial Strength" Dramatic Coloratura Voice. I could easily glide through five octaves, and spent years developing my "Instrument". As I grew older, my voice "darkened" somewhat, and I lost some of the high end, but I was able to maintain breath control and sing any song, in any key with ease. (I credit my Vocal teacher, Mary H., who trained me relentlessly for 11 years.)
Now, after my mystery illness, I could barely squeak out a line. I attributed this shortness of breath to age, and it fit right in with one of my favorite songs to sing at Open-Mike-Nite which was "TIME" by Pink Floyd. After all, I'm pushing 70!
Around the same time I was sick, my brother had a bout with a mystery flu as well. he got better too, but had lost his sense of TASTE. (YIKES! I can't even imagine!) This aftereffect was complicated by the fact that his wife is an astounding cook, and derives much of her self-esteem from this talent, much as I derived my own identity from my Voice. My brother's inability to taste the marvelous flavors that she had spent the entire day in the kitchen concocting caused her great distress and became a real problem. Both my S-I-L and I had made the mistake of deriving our self-actualization from WHAT we DO rather than WHO we ARE. This is completely human and natural, but, as a Child of God, I can strive for excellence without obsessing over whether or not I'll ever be "good enough" for God. Even when my voice was at its peak, it can't compare to the song of the Angels before the Throne, or even the sounds of nature. And yet, the Lord HEARS my Voice, and I don't even need a microphone. And that's why I love this Psalm.
Here's an update...My Brother is getting his sense of taste back, and was last seen grilling steaks on the deck. My voice had a breakthrough last month when I spontaneously burst into the National Anthem at an anti-lockdown rally, and my voice rose above the counter-demonstrators who were shouting slogans through bullhorns. I stood there, Loud and Proud, and hit the high note with ease. My brother and I will probably never know what "virus" afflicted us in those early days of 2020, but we have a good idea, and we're still here.

Psalm 131
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
1 O Lord, my heart is not lifted up,
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvellous for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.*
3 O Israel, hope in the Lord
from this time on and for evermore.

Praise God for you and your brother’s healing. Oddly. My office all came down with a ‘flu’ in January 2020. And negative flu tests (a and b tests). But recovered well. Thank God.
Prayers up always 🙏❤.
