Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 97

Psalm 97

1  The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad;
    let the distant shores rejoice.

2  Clouds and thick darkness surround him;
    righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

3  Fire goes before him
    and consumes his foes on every side.

4  His lightning lights up the world;
    the earth sees and trembles.

5  The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
    before the Lord of all the earth.

6  The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
    and all peoples see his glory.

7  All who worship images are put to shame,
    those who boast in idols—
    worship him, all you gods!

8  Zion hears and rejoices
    and the villages of Judah are glad
    because of your judgments, Lord.

9  For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above all gods.

10  Let those who love the Lord hate evil,
    for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
    and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

11  Light shines[a] on the righteous
    and joy on the upright in heart.

12  Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,
    and praise his holy name.

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
We Come into Your Glorious Presence With Singing,
And into Your Courts With Praise!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD;
You Alone Are The Most High,
The Great I AM.
God of Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob,
We Worship You and You Alone,
Creator of All That Is,
And Sovereign LORD of All Nature,
Which is Under Your Control at All Times.
How conceited we humans can be,
Thinking that we somehow can control the mighty forces
That are Yours and Yours Alone!
What hubris, to think that somehow we are little gods
who can influence and change the course of climate,
history,
or Your Will!

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

A very popular hymn from the last century is How Great ThouArt.

Derived from a Swedish Folk Song, and written during a time of persecution in Sweden, this song has been recorded by such diverse people as Susan Boyle and Elvis Presley. I sing it regularly at our Wednesday Morning Bible Study, and I had the Susan Boyle version played at my husband's funeral. This song and "Amazing Grace" are probably the most popular Christian Hymns ever, and people still record them today.

The thing that makes this song so special is it's "Sense of Wonder". Much like Today's Psalm, the Song expresses Awe in the Face of God's Glory. The Stars, the Thunder, the Mountains, the Brooks, the Gentle Breeze, all are expressions of God's Magnificence because they are His Creation. People who worship "Nature" are missing the point. SOMEBODY made all this happen. SOMEBODY created it. He Alone is Worthy of our Worship.
