European country standing up for persecuted Christians gets raw deal
VATICAN CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) - Pope Francis is sparking off a diplomatic stink with Hungary after he expressed reluctance to tour the country or meet its political leaders, limiting his forthcoming trip instead to a three-hour stop.
Although the pontiff will celebrate the closing Mass at the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress being held in Budapest from Sept. 5–12, he does not plan to call on the Catholic head of state President János Áder and evangelical Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
Pope Francis may hop across the border and spend three and a half days in Slovakia — a move that is being seen as a "a gigantic slap in the face" of Orbán, Vaticanist Edward Pentin reported Thursday.
Negative 'Diplomacy'
Lambasting the pope's diplomatic bungle as "outrageous," a Budapest churchman compared the papal snub to Francis "spending half a day in Israel and then three and a half days in Iran, or half a day in Poland and then traveling to Russia for a few days."
Cardinal Péter Erdő of Esztergom-Budapest and Hungary's deputy prime minister Zsolt Semjén visited Rome last week to plead for a longer visit.
"Something is not right here, at least from the point of view of diplomacy and protocol," Luis Badilla Morales, editor of Italian news aggregator Il Sismografo, wrote Thursday. "Thinking like this is the wrong move."

That idiot is why my wife’s family is no longer Catholic.
The Hungarian border fence:
The Catholic Church’s answer to Slo-Jo???
Jesus would never snub the poor and hungary. This is just wrong.
They have a wall around the Vatican.
How many Muslim’s live in those walls?
Awhile back I did a rough calculation. Based on city population densities and the Vatican City’s size, they could house a minimum of 2000 Muslim immigrants/invaders.
Odd that Francis has made no move in that direction.
The irony is that Hungary was the first Eastern Bloc country to take down it’s part of the Iron Curtain in 1989.
You’re going to H-E-Double Hockey Sticks for that one.
Hungary should be relieved.
I would think that Francis would if anybody, why me? I didn’t snub anybody.
But of course the Iron Curtain was built to keep people in. Hungary’s new border fence is meant to defend the border, and keep people out.
“ The irony is that Hungary was the first Eastern Bloc country to take down it’s part of the Iron Curtain in 1989.”
Francis probably still holds that against them.
In addition, Hungary has a pro-family policy that encourages its citizens to marry and have kids, so they don’t have to rely on inbred Muslims.
The Pope wants open boarders in the US.
Praise God for that. Did they become Christians then? I know many who have realized the RC Church is not the one Jesus talks about in the Bible, and became saved.
I don’t know about you, but I remember when the Pope was Catholic.
Francis will go down in history as the first, and only, Jesuit pope. He is nothing like the Jesuit priests I encountered during my 4 years at Gonzaga, to include Fr. Bob Spitzer. He graduated from GU two years before I did, a remarkable and absolutely brilliant man.
The Pope is communist scum.
Was it Hungary or Poland where machines to manufacture razor wire were set up in jails and prisoners worked 24/7 for the new boarder wall.
