Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 80

Psalm 80[a]

For the director of music. To the tune of “The Lilies of the Covenant.” Of Asaph. A psalm.

1 Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
    you who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
    shine forth 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
Awaken your might;
    come and save us.

3 Restore us, O God;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

4 How long, Lord God Almighty,
    will your anger smolder
    against the prayers of your people?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears;
    you have made them drink tears by the bowlful.
6 You have made us an object of derision[b] to our neighbors,
    and our enemies mock us.

7 Restore us, God Almighty;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

8 You transplanted a vine from Egypt;
    you drove out the nations and planted it.
9 You cleared the ground for it,
    and it took root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
    the mighty cedars with its branches.
11 Its branches reached as far as the Sea,[c]
    its shoots as far as the River.[d]

12 Why have you broken down its walls
    so that all who pass by pick its grapes?
13 Boars from the forest ravage it,
    and insects from the fields feed on it.
14 Return to us, God Almighty!
    Look down from heaven and see!
Watch over this vine,
15     the root your right hand has planted,
    the son[e] you have raised up for yourself.

16 Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire;
    at your rebuke your people perish.
17 Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand,
    the son of man you have raised up for yourself.
18 Then we will not turn away from you;
    revive us, and we will call on your name.

19 Restore us, Lord God Almighty;
    make your face shine on us,
    that we may be saved.

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
The Earth is Yours, and The Fullness Thereof,
You Have Created It,
and All It Contains.
It Is You,
The Eternal,
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
Omnipresent,
Blessed Are You,
Oh LORD, Our God,
King of The Universe,
Who has Brought us to this Day!

You Are The SAME, Yesterday, Today, and Forever,
And You Alone Are Worthy Of Praise and Worship!
How We Long For Your Kingdom,
When We Can Join With Your Angels and Sing:

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY,
LORD, God of Power and Might,
Heaven and Earth are Full of Your Glory!

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

This Psalm, written Centuries after the Exodus, echoes the Blessing in Numbers 6:

"The LORD bless you and keep you;
the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."'

Twice, in Asaph's lament about the state of his nation, he asks God to "Shine His Face" upon them. It is like a refrain in a song.

The Bible was written over a period of many centuries, by several authors, in many styles and literary forms. Narrative, Poetry, Prayers, Songs, and Prophecy are all represented in the Bible, but the theme throughout is the same. The "personality" of each of the authors shine through. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Danial are very different men, and yet, their Message is the same. This points to One Inspiration throughout the entire body of work, that of The Holy Spirit.

And here we are, nearly 3000 years later, reading these words and easily applying them to our own situation. Our God is the Same, Yesterday, Today, and Forever.

God's Word always FITS.
