Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 67

Psalm 67[a]

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm. A song.

1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
    and make his face shine on us—[b]
2 so that your ways may be known on earth,
    your salvation among all nations.

3 May the peoples praise you, God;
    may all the peoples praise you.
4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
    for you rule the peoples with equity
    and guide the nations of the earth.
5 May the peoples praise you, God;
    may all the peoples praise you.

6 The land yields its harvest;
    God, our God, blesses us.
7 May God bless us still,
    so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
How We Love You,
With Our Whole Heart,
Our Whole Soul,
Our Whole Mind,
and Our Whole Strength!
For Only You Are Worthy
To Be Praised and Worshiped.
Only You Are Holy,
Almighty, and Eternal!
The Nations are Merely Dust To You,
And We, The Work of Your Hands,
Must Bow Our Heads in Worship and Admiration,
and Awe at Your Great Glory!

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In the Book of Numbers (The Fourth Book in the Bible), there is a wonderful Blessing:

The LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron and his sons, 'This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: "'"The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace."'(Numbers 6:22-27)

It is usually sung, as the High Priest (or Cohen) extends his hands over the people. Each hand is in the "Shin" position, and looks like the first letter in the word "Shalom". As a child going to Temple during the High Holidays, Leonard Nimoy never forgot that gesture, and carried it into his STAR TREK days as the Vulcan Salute "Live Long, and Prosper". Spock only used one hand, perhaps out of respect, perhaps just to be different, but the gesture still infers Blessing.

Today's Psalm evokes the Ancient Passage in Numbers, and then some. God's Face shining down upon you brings life, prosperity, and abundance, so much so that the whole Earth rejoices in Him. In the Gospel of John 10:10, Jesus says:

(King James Bible) "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

Whether Leonard knew it or not, his version of the Priestly Blessing echoed Jesus. And so, with that in mind, I say to YOU, "Live Long, and Prosper", and I'm using BOTH Hands.
