Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 48

Psalm 48[a]

A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah.

1 Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise,
    in the city of our God, his holy mountain.

2 Beautiful in its loftiness,
    the joy of the whole earth,
like the heights of Zaphon[b] is Mount Zion,
    the city of the Great King.
3 God is in her citadels;
    he has shown himself to be her fortress.

4 When the kings joined forces,
    when they advanced together,
5 they saw her and were astounded;
    they fled in terror.
6 Trembling seized them there,
    pain like that of a woman in labor.
7 You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish
    shattered by an east wind.

8 As we have heard,
    so we have seen
in the city of the Lord Almighty,
    in the city of our God:
God makes her secure
    forever.[c]

9 Within your temple, O God,
    we meditate on your unfailing love.
10 Like your name, O God,
    your praise reaches to the ends of the earth;
    your right hand is filled with righteousness.
11 Mount Zion rejoices,
    the villages of Judah are glad
    because of your judgments.

12 Walk about Zion, go around her,
    count her towers,
13 consider well her ramparts,
    view her citadels,
that you may tell of them
    to the next generation.

14 For this God is our God for ever and ever;
    he will be our guide even to the end.

Our God,

You Are The Almighty,
The Rock of Ages,
The Ancient of Days,
The Great I AM,
The King of the Universe,
The Creator, Sustainer, and Destroyer of Worlds!
The Aleph ~ Tav,
The Alpha and Omega,
The Beginning and the End
Our Provider,
Our Banner,
Our Healer,
Our Righteousness,
Our All Sufficient And Wonderful All In All!

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our first day in Jerusalem was marred by my husband's bad reaction to something he ate. I think it was that snack place in Jericho. Not wanting my first day to be ruined, he suggested I walk over to the Central Bus Station nearby and go to the Old City by myself. That seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to me, so I went by myself by Bus. The Bus left me off at the Jaffa Gate and I immediately climbed the stairs to the ramparts and proceeded to walk all the way around the Old City. The views were spectacular! I was having the time of my life. I had nearly gotten all the way around when suddenly, the way was blocked by a gate and an ominous sign in French, Hebrew, and English. I don't remember the exact wording, but it went something like this:

STOP!
You Are Entering an Area Open Only To Moslems!
DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER!

It was the part of the rampart that enclosed the Temple Mount. I was furious. THIS WAS UNACCEPTABLE! I AM AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, and I am accustomed to my freedom! HOW DARE THEY!!!!!

Well, of course, I didn't want to cause an International Incident, and I was, after all, in a whole different part of the world, so I turned around and walked all the way back to the Jaffa Gate. It was the first time in my life I had been turned away from someplace because of my religion. (Although I have been denied accommodations because I am a Biker, in Upstate New Yawk no less! But that is another story.)

Little did I know at the time, that, by walking the ramparts of Jerusalem and gazing upon her towers and gates, I was living this Psalm. The beauty of her hills and valleys, the awesome towers and gates, and the churches and temples are all of earth, but the Heavenly Temple of The New Jerusalem is open to me because of The Blood of The Lamb. My own body is The Temple of The Holy Spirit, and NOBODY can put up a sign to keep me out.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

I expect the only sign of real significance is the one posted over Jesus on the cross, King of the Jews. We've been grafted in, and into His Kingdom we are entirely welcomed!

There is an analogy personal to me to your unique practice of responding with different scripture-visuals to each respondent on your threads. Forty-two years ago I became an official member* of Sierra Madre [CA] Congregational Church. Periodically during church services, the Pastor would recognize and pray over a fresh group of new members. The analogy is that, having prayed, he assigned each a specific Bible verse.

Mine was Philippians 1:6: "...being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." That has remained a meaningful encouragement and inspiration to me ever since.

* Later, the elders discontinued official membership because it lacks biblical support.
