Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 46
Psalm 46[a]
For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According to alamoth.[b] A song.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields[d] with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In the Gene Wilder movie "The Frisco Kid", a young rabbi who has just arrived in the Wild West from Poland exclaims:
"This is America! There are no walls around the cities!"
After many adventures with outlaws, Indians, Mountain Snow, and struggling to keep his faith intact, the Rabbi finally ends up marrying a beautiful girl and leading a little synagogue in San Francisco. The Rabbi's remark about "walled cities" was indicative of the horrors of the pogroms and ghettos of Eastern Europe, and not about border walls between countries. The rabbi's exclamation was one of delight, not fear.
I lived and worked for years in South Florida, and during that time I saw something I had never seen in Boston. Soon these became a part of my life, as I had to visit several a day in my capacity as a Private Tutor. Then, my own subdivision decided to build a wall and gate it, which had not been my intent when I bought the house.
These were what have become known as "Gated Communities." I am starting to see them crop up in the Northeast as well.
Most of my students lived in a huge gated community in the Everglades (a drained section of it) that extended far west into Gator Country. First, one had to show an ID to an armed guard, who would call the resident and ask permission for me to enter. Then, after receiving permission, I would be let through the gate onto a perimeter road. Many smaller gated areas would branch off this road, some of which were gated (password-operated or needing an additional call to the resident for entry), and some not. All of the children whom I taught went to a big high school built especially for this new community, named after a woman whose entire life was dedicated to preserving the Everglades from development. At the time, I thought there was a sad irony in that.
After I had moved back to New England, I was having a bite to eat in a Thai Restaurant after a long day. Over the bar, there was a huge flat-screen TV with no sound, and I recognized the Florida High School, surrounded by Police and Ambulances. My Pad Thai went uneaten as I watched the tragedy unfold in silence. These were MY students!
All of the kids tragically murdered that day, and the people who have since used the tragedy for their own benefit, live in a gated community with an armed guard.
The Psalmist understood fortresses very well. Jerusalem has always had a wall, and gates, and does to this day. Ruins of fortresses dot the Holy Land, and many were piled on top of one another to form a tel, or a hill full of archaeological interest. I have been to a few of them. And so, while David was not debating the efficacy of fortresses, he is certain that there is Only One Fortress that will not fail you, and that is Almighty God. He is Our Fortress and Our High Tower, Our Refuge and Our Strength, and Our Very Present Help in Times of Trouble.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 10
1 Why, O Lord, do you stand far off?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2 In arrogance the wicked persecute the poor—
let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.
3 For the wicked boast of the desires of their heart,
those greedy for gain curse and renounce the Lord.
4 In the pride of their countenance the wicked say, ‘God will not seek it out’;
all their thoughts are, ‘There is no God.’
5 Their ways prosper at all times;
your judgements are on high, out of their sight;
as for their foes, they scoff at them.
6 They think in their heart, ‘We shall not be moved;
throughout all generations we shall not meet adversity.’
7 Their mouths are filled with cursing and deceit and oppression;
under their tongues are mischief and iniquity.
8 They sit in ambush in the villages;
in hiding-places they murder the innocent.
Their eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;
9 they lurk in secret like a lion in its covert;
they lurk that they may seize the poor;
they seize the poor and drag them off in their net.
10 They stoop, they crouch,
and the helpless fall by their might.
11 They think in their heart, ‘God has forgotten,
he has hidden his face, he will never see it.’
12 Rise up, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand;
do not forget the oppressed.
13 Why do the wicked renounce God,
and say in their hearts, ‘You will not call us to account’?
14 But you do see! Indeed you note trouble and grief,
that you may take it into your hands;
the helpless commit themselves to you;
you have been the helper of the orphan.
15 Break the arm of the wicked and evildoers;
seek out their wickedness until you find none.
16 The Lord is king for ever and ever;
the nations shall perish from his land.
17 O Lord, you will hear the desire of the meek;
you will strengthen their heart, you will incline your ear
18 to do justice for the orphan and the oppressed,
so that those from earth may strike terror no more.*

Great story and lesson, left that other site
The most deadliest enemy is not the enemy at the gates, but the enemy within. See that in America.
And God is our refuge and strength....
