I’m not scoffing; I’m showing that you are indulging people who’re playing fast and loose with Scripture.
One step further and they’d be right there in error with Harold Camping.
Think:
How big a step is it, really, from “these headlines indicate Jesus is coming back REALLY soon” to “these headlines indicate Jesus is coming back XYZ date”?
There’s no great expanse of real estate there; maybe the difference between peering over the wall into the Grand Canyon, and leaping in.
So, while we rightly say the latter claim is great error, perhaps we oughta be lots more sober-minded, and maybe a whole lot less verbose with claims of the former type?
Does that just not seem judicious?
‘Cuz when every headline means Jesus is coming; none of them do. The impact falls to zero, and the entire message is lost.
