Seminary president Albert Mohler says a new USA Today column labeling Oral Roberts University as “bigoted” should serve as a warning to Christians and faith-based institutions everywhere of the direction society is heading.
The column by USA Today writer Hemal Jhaveri criticized Oral Roberts’ Bible-based policies, including its handbook that says students should avoid “sexual promiscuity,” such as “adultery, any homosexual behavior [and] premarital sex.” Jhaveri said the “university’s deeply bigoted anti-LGBTQ+ policies can’t and shouldn’t be ignored” even if its men’s basketball team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16.
Oral Roberts and schools like it, she argued, should not be allowed in the NCAA Tournament and should be booted from the NCAA itself. “Any and all anti-LGBTQ+ language in any school’s policies should ban them from NCAA competition,” she wrote.
Mohler, speaking Thursday on his The Briefing podcast, said the column represents a “huge development” in framing the issue.
“Just imagine the language that was used in this article … and recognize if it's said about Oral Roberts University today, it will be said about you, your school, your church, your organization, your Christian congregation, tomorrow. Count on it,” Mohler said.
The column by Jhaveri, Mohler said, is “an indictment of any Christian college, any Christian university, any institution, any chartered organization, any church and denomination that would dare to stand against, or even against the tide, of the moral revolution.”
Mohler said his own school, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., has a similar code of conduct.
“This is exactly the kind of student conduct statement, the kind of student honor code that you should expect in any legitimately Christian organization,” he said. “You're likely to find a similar policy statement in an institution committed to, say, Orthodox Judaism, or any traditional Roman.......

If Christians would boycott USA Today it would put a stop to this kind of crap real quick.

I don’t know if I’ve ever bought a USA today. I probably have a few times in my life, but certainly not in the last decade. I’ve considered them as part of the hard-Left media for quite some time, so it’s been easy for me to avoid them.
So now it’s a hate crime to encourage chastity among young people?
Dude, we’ve been boycotting them. USA Today is not even half the newspaper that it was in the 90s in terms of size. It’s rail thin and it’s usually combined with the local newspaper.
Actually it was only Arkansas that came for ORU. They thrashed them mightily.
Unfortunately, they just lost to Arkansas.
A two point win at the last second is not exactly a “thrashing”.
Well, because they were a Christian college, they too it easy on them. No need in embarrassing them.
too = took
USA Today is a Gannett newspaper. Just don’t give any Gannett publications any clicks. They already got rid of Mallard Fillmore.
Don't know the last time I bought a newspaper to be honest. It may have been the first Chicago Bulls NBA Championship with Michael Jordan.
Here's the thing: your larger point is valid in that if Christians flat-out boycotted the entire lying liberal lamestream media in all its forms this crap would stop.
So how many people know that you can get high speed internet from your local cable provider without paying for the TV service too, or paying an upcharge to not have the TV service?
I did that exact thing with Comcast more than two years ago now: I made them take the TV Charge off my bill so I only pay for high speed internet.
If I want TV (I do not!) I'd put an antenna up and get it. I don't need nor want to pay for 300 channels of crap including CNNMSNBCFOXNEWSABCNBCCBSPBS yadda yadda yadda so I do not pay for it.
Bend your cable TV service over the barrel and tell them you don't want to pay for crap you're not going to use. Let THEM push back on the fake new/"entertainment industry" to clean up their act or they'll keep losing money.
Why people don't get this simple concept escapes me.
USA Today had a good sports section. 30 years ago.
Last that I’ve read a “McNews” was when a USA Today was dropped outside my hotel door when on a business trip. Never paid for one.
I’ve never bought their paper, so I have been boycotting them my whole life.
My subscription expired 10 years ago and I purposely didn’t renew it. I don’t recall exactly what it was that set me off but I made the right decision.
I haven’t read that rag in over a couple of decades now, and I never will!
This stuff is evil,
Like we are living in Left Behind
