Americans are growing more confident they can attend in-person religious services, but many still want restrictions such as social distancing and masking.
(RNS) — Americans are becoming more confident they can attend in-person religious services but church attendance at Easter services will still be far lower than usual this year, a new Pew Research poll finds.
The poll, conducted in early March among 12,055 Americans, finds the percentage of regular attenders who say they actually have attended religious services — in person — in the past month is slightly higher than it was in June, about 17%.
Among Christians, only 39% said they planned to go in person to church services this Easter Sunday (April 4), with white evangelicals the most likely to say they planned to — 52%. That’s far lower than the 62% of Christians of all kinds who typically attend services at Easter, the holiest day of the Christian year.
The poll also found that people who attend religious services favor keeping a lot of the COVID-19 restrictions, such as social distancing and mask-wearing, in place.

Lord willing, I will be playing the organ and providing the lesson readings at our LCMS church, which has been worshipping weekly since last June.
Guess I need to start looking for one.

Went to church last Easter, and the wife and I are going again this year.
The poll also found that people who attend religious services favor keeping a lot of the COVID-19 restrictions, such as social distancing and mask-wearing, in place.
I'm so done with that.
MY lefty church I stopped attending years ago, resumed services in June and stopped in Mid-Dec, despite no state mandate to stop. They have said they hope to resume outdoor service in May, but no singing or call and response allowed.
I have to wonder if the longer these lefty churches keep up the masks and restrictions, when they finally stop, how many will return? After 1.5 years or more of closures and restrictions, will people realize they don’t need these lefty “churches” in their life anymore and just leave?
We sit on five tiered bleachers - although the church building was closed for a while, some of us met at a home and held services; just bible reading and singing and a message on a computer from some preacher. It was fun. Our building is now open again and we sing and greet.
My church is said even when they resume outside in person worship, hopefully in May they will not permit singing or Colin response, and after services are finished everyone must leave if you cannot stand around and talk to one another. Basically show up, sit in your circle or similar like Biden did, listen to the message get in your car and leave. I just don’t see attending something like that.
Nope and we don’t.
